Is there cheating in N2003?

Is there cheating in NR2003 online?

An unexplained question about cheating in NASCAR Racing 2003 drew short replies saying yes, and Dave Henrie explained known cheats had existed for years. MWB described cars outrunning him at Talladega, while JP said the other driver is almost always just faster. Posters compared the behaviour on Sierra servers with VROC and debated setup gurus.

Same goes for D.H. your question in the subject was a 'minimalist' question so I answered with the same amount of brevity and I also included a dose of wit and style and accuracy at no extra charge. You asked a simple question, I GAVE you a simple answer. There has been known cheats for ages. One simple cheat is the weather cheat, a motor running in cloudy condiditons makes more power than one in hot sunshine. So there is a fairly simple method of joining a sunny race but getting your system to recognize cloudy(and thus more horsepower) conditions. Sierra forums had several periods of users caught with more sophisticated cheating, the whole reason of including cd keys was to make penalties more enforceable. Several users have been banned over the years. The private leagues with 3rd party cheat utilities have often caught noncompliant cars. It's known, it's real, and it has been largely ignored publically by Sierra. So my answer stands for your enlightenment....yes. dave henrie

A joke? Where is the laughter? Joke - a device for expressing humor that employs a setup which contains a decoy assumption to misdirect the audience into accepting a bogus 1st story; and a punch which contains a reinterpretation which creates a 2nd story that shatters the decoy assumption "JP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:vjT7d.139$[email hidden]...

I always wondered why my honest self couldn't keep up with those frigging cars on the first lap at dega. I was down 60% grill tape because of overheating at 70 without a draft, 60lbs pressure in all tires, 45 degrees of slope on the rear spoiler, diff ratio gears at 2.857 ...and those holes would be doing 200+mph at dega, when I couldn't do 189 without draft!! Not to sound arrogant here, but I thought it was me doing something wrong. Thanks for the insight Dave..

Thanks for the info Dave. At Dega I qualify around 50.250 - 50. 500 on a consistent basis and that's middle of the pack at best. What really bothers me is drafting with a car and a single car 2 seconds behind us blows our doors off. Now I know why. I use in cockpit with no aids. In fact the only way I can drive is with the in cockpit view. Mark....gauger on line......I hope I haven't wrecked you.

I'd like to see the setup which allows you to go that fast at Dega. Even the setups I've tried from the likes of setup gurus such as Gregor Huttu don't go that fast (tho they are certainly faster than the default "fast" and "Jasper" setups). That, and the wreckers, and the overall boring nature of plate ovals (now that I've become a pretty decent road racer), is why I don't race ovals on Sierra anymore... John DiFool

Judging oval racing by Sierra is like judging road racing by Vroc; neither are a good impression. I have no idea what happened in the example given above, since I wasn't there, but just because you can't do it, irregardless of who's setup you use, doesn't mean it was cheating.

Having experienced VROC for many years I found the Sierra servers a complete surprise. Full of kids swearing at each other and wrecking before the start line. I was genuinely shocked as I had never experienced anything like it in sim racing, FPS yes but not sim racing. That is not to say GPL pick up races are perfect examples of gentlemen racers and yes I have seen a few episodes at T1 Monza and news of deliberate wreckers gets around but they are few and far between in my own experience. Pick up races have an element of risk but I wouldn't tar VROC with the same brush as Sierra pick up races. Cheers Tony

Everything you mention above, I saw on vroc multiple times. And that was several years back fwiw.

I did say in my experience. Possibly the GPL drivers are a bit older and GPL is a bit less accessible for the casual do badder. These days VROC consists mainly of the hardened GPLer. I've droppped in a few times and had some great races, but the numbers racing now are low. It could be clouding my memory of a few years back mind. My experience of the Sierra servers was quite limited but it just seemed mad!
Well, I can say that Gregor Huttu is NOT a setup guru at Dega or Daytona and probably not at ovals. Roadies are different than ovals and a TRUE dega-head can blow any of those guys doors off. They spend all day every day trying to find hundreths of a second. Bill Bollinger www.gsxn.com "John DiFool" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

I didn't intend to imply cheating: I'll repeat: if you can do speeds like this <legally>, then I'd like to see the setups responsible. And someone responded, and once I get it I'll take a look. I am skeptical because setups over at Setup-Gurus don't seem to go that fast. I.E. (Tally lap speeds in race, read as +/- 1 MPH at 70/Clear, 65 tape): Default Papy Fast: 185 Huttu's setup: 188 Reasonable: 190 Questionable: 195 Highly Doubtful: 200 Likely cheater 201+ And note I drive with no aids, not even steering assist-perhaps that is the problem, those apocryphal "aids-only" super-fast setups... Yes, i suppose if they were subtle it would be hard to prove - this stuff not detected by Replay analyser? Or picked up on a Sierra server?

There's ways around anything if someone really wants to; Punkbuster included.
