actually, i hear that the celery 566 is almost as easy to overclock to 850
as the 300a is to 450. might want to look into that, as 850Mhz + a decent
vid card just might be enough to run this sim (obviously this is just a
guess on my part...)

Nine new NASCAR 4 screenshots and graphics card speculation
Nine new NASCAR Racing 4 screenshots appeared on BHMotorsports and Papyrus's site, and posters were impressed by the dynamic shadows and detail. Discussion turned to hardware: Eric Busch stated that N4 would support only Direct3D and OpenGL, not Glide, which fuelled debate between Voodoo5 and GeForce2 buyers and plans for expensive upgrades.
With Eric Busch (Papyrus)
Automated summary.
As good as I think those shots look, I'm guessing they could REALLY
benefit from the V5's FSAA. Mmmm......just imagine those shots @800*600
w/4XFSAA....(insert Homer's drool)

Not that I want to turn this into a V5/GF2 debate, but IMHO I think
4xFSAA will improve the game more than if T&L is implemented(which of
course doesn't make the game LOOK any better) I'm also assuming that
the game will be capped @31fps like N3. With a decent processor, this
should be fairly easy.
I can't imagine any sim freak (like myself) would consider anything but
a V5 (as an upgrade over a GF2)
Games like F12k (and N3) are just begging for 4xFSAA. I'm still
salivating over those GPL shots, and this is a game that really doesn't
need FSAA.

Its probably D3D. N4 will only support D3D and OpenGL... No Glide.

Anyway, those shots look pretty close to photo realistic, especially the

I suppose I'll have to start saving for an MB and processor upgrade now.

Don't waste your time on a Voodoo5 - someone said the sim will be
supporting hardware transform and lighting (T&L), and the Voodoo cards
don't do this. Your best recourse at this time (if this is indeed the
case) is to get a GeForce2 card.

Good grief, those shots are marvelous! I wish they posted the system specs,
but it looks like I'll be upgrading again (last upgrade was entirely due to
GPL).
And I shouldn't even mention this, but can you imagine a CART sim or even a
GPL2 with these graphics? Sigh....

I agree in general that the GeForce 2 GTS is the faster card, but N4 will
support Glide (just like GPL), which means it will get an extra 10% speed
boost on a V5. Plus, what did hardware T&L ever do for frame rates in Quake
3?

It looks like to me, that Jure did not save the .jpg's in a very high
quality which gives the shots a "blurry" look around the cars.
Take a look at the ones that are up on Papy's site, same shots but
about 3 times the file size.
Much clearer pics.

No support for compressed textures? This is a feature which will be supported in hardware by
all video graphics chips soon to be released in a few months, i.e. Voodoo5, and makes it
possible to use high-resolution textures >= 1024x1024x32 without requiring too much texture
memory on the card.

As much as I like 3dfx, 2xFSAA is more like what people will be using
(unless you're going to spring for a V5-6000). I wish more of the
V5-5500 previews included 2x shots, as 4x seems to have too big a hit
- down to Geforce FSAA levels ;).
I'll be getting a V5 eventually anyways, too many good Glide games I
still enjoy.

GPL engine - more like 36FPS cap, probably. This could actually be very
interesting. Up til now, most tests of T&L have shown a fast CPU can do
as good or better (in general), but with the N4(GPL) engine having to do
the physics calcs for 43 cars instead of 19, hardware T&L may prove to
be very useful. Only time will tell...
Unless Eric feels like telling ;).

Look at the last photo! It even has little tufts of grass against the pit

then this game should rank right up there under GPL for the best racing sim

Damnit, damnit, damnit!!! Just when I thought my video upgrade choice
