Notable threadTeam Redline pulls GTP mod; the 127.0.0.1 'hacker' joke
Team Redline withdrew its GTP mod for NR2003 because of an installation bug, and users posted their system specs to look for a pattern among failed installs. A troll's claim that uninstalling the mod wiped the root directory was dismissed, since the mod has no uninstaller. The thread is remembered for btgoss's joke that a hacker was pinging him from 127.0.0.1, which fooled several readers before he admitted it was a joke.
Automated summary.
It looks like it was removed for an install bug! I thought there was
something fishy. I look forward to trying to install again when they get it
straightened out.

I has no trouble but I guess some people did if it was serious enough to
take down the site.

I only read it was removed for an install bug. No detail on what it was. I
was unable to install 3 different downloads of it.

Here is the link to the announcement of the mods' withdrawal. I would guess
once they repair it there will be much less fuss about the install.

Unless you normally work with your desktop set to 16-bit colour, do not
check the option (on the main loader screen) on the NrAssistant tab, to
set the desktop to 16 bits. This caused my system to cycles between the
Config utility and the Loader.
When installing, you have to point to the directory where N2K3 is
installed. Apparently, you need to double click on the folder where
NR2003.exe is located so that the subfolders all appear, or the
installer will not be able to locate the NR2003 executable.
You must run the Config utility before starting the GTP Loader for the
first time; failing to do so, according to the readme, means a CTD.

Caveate about this.... I could be wrong due to problems encountered with a
attempted resurection a while back... when I tried to clone to newer big
200gig drive. Im likely to have gone with either converting to NTFS, or
having fresh installed Pro using ntfs, and using the migrating utility built
into the OS... But for the life of me I cannot recall for positive at the
moment. I work on 56 computers a day, LOL.

There isn't any uninstall program for GTP in add/remove software system in
control panel. Furthermore, there are inviting uninst.exe files in the GTP
folder, but those are probably just leftovers (need-to be present) from
N2003. I suspect that running them will do nothing, but I still do not
recommend trying them!
And, if you have read the readme, the chapter 8 says:
7) This track is distributed in the hope that it will be useful, but WITHOUT
ANY WARRANTY; without even the implied warranty of MERCHANTABILITY or
FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
so redline isn't in any way responsible for any damages the mod causes ;)
But I couldn't verify any uninstallation bug, because the uninstallation
will have to be done manually by deleting the GTP directory.

Are those who have not being able to install still able to run NR2003,

Reading... Bah LOL... this doesnt seem to be some peoples strong suit, you
know? I know that I read to damn much, because I know somwere on the gtp
site or in the readme, there was the instructions that if you dont like the
GTP mod, you just delete just the new created gtp folder out of NR03, and
out of the 'program files' folder... Damned if I can find it now, cause
Im at work.

Translation - don't, like Buster, delete C: when uninstalling GTP. Just
c:/program files/gtp ought to do.

127.0.0.1 is the PC you are using btgoss. I suggest you don't pummel the

Do a google search on "loopback adaptor" or "localhost" if you want to know

It was a joke.
I enjoyed it, and I think everyone for their responses.
But I did kick his ass good.
LOL

I can't build a mod to save my ass, and if someone takes the time to
build something, and there are problems with it, well that is part of
what you are paying for....ah wait... they are free... so I don't think
people should get so bent out of shape when free stuff is not 100%
perfect. (Just my opinion.) Now as someone who purchased a copy of Dave
Noonan's converter, IF I had a problem with that, I would have
complained. (Not that I had a problem, it is the only exmaple I could
think of at the moment. Although being able to convert Flemington would
be nice....) That would be fair. But again, this is just my opinion.
