From Team Redline's forum:
...a couple things about the re-release:
First of all thanks for everyone's patience while we've been working on
everything that needed to be done for re-release. I just wanted to mention a
few tweaks/improvements we've been able to make in the meantime,
particularly with the physics. The overall feel of the cars is virtually the
same and the individual characteristics are still very much there, but we've
done a few things that should make the GTP experience a little better.
The shocks have been tweaked a bit. We've been able to adjust the shock
travel as well as the pressure bias between compression and rebound. The
difference is mostly noticeable only on the bumpy/low speed parts of tracks
(i.e. the turn at the end of the boot at the glen, or the chicane at the end
of suzuka). The cars are much less likely to "bottom out" their shock travel
and get skittish, or get into the weird oscillating effects that would occur
sometimes.
The Grille Tape is now a "true" radiator. It is a factor of drag vs engine
cooling and no longer has an effect on downforce. This actually improves the
aero balance of the cars very slightly and is from all accounts more
realistic for these cars. Also the drag factor is slightly higher, as the
grille tape had very very little effect on drag before.
The rear wing now accounts for a lower portion of the overall drag of the
cars. In effect this means that you will not gain nearly as much benefit
from running lower wing as you did before. We think this is a bit more
realistic and it will only be necessary to get a low wing setup working at
the very fast tracks, as it should be.
The tire wear has been tweaked slightly, particularly in the amount of wear
caused by sliding/locking up the tires. It seemed like there was just too
much damage being done to the tires from a spin or from locking the tires up
too much. Although it's somewhat realistic that the tires on these cars
would've been beaten up from abuse, it seemed like it was overdone a bit and
was just leading to frustration more than anything...
In the garage, the minimum wing has been raised slightly and the front
weight limit has been lowered. That is, you will not be able to move the
weight forward to some crazy unrealistic amounts as before. Also the minimum
track bar has been lowered slightly.
There have been some very small tweaks made to the tire model that are
almost negligible but might as well be noted.
Overall these changes are very slight and most drivers probably will not
notice the difference. The feedback on the physics after the original
release was very very good overall so it didnt seem like there was a need
for any major changes... The overall grip/downforce/drag/power of the cars
is unchanged so laptimes/setups will not differ much if at all at most
tracks, and your favorite car to drive in the original release will still be
your favorite car in the re-release.
Also i'm happy to report that most of the sounds have been reworked and
really do sound quite a bit improved...
I can say that re-release is hopefully not too far off and thanks again for
everyone's patience. Amid all the discussions and speculations I think most
people have been understanding and supportive about all of this and
fortunately we've been able to squeeze a few improvements in for everyone
P.S. We should have a few new things up on the site at re-release or shortly
thereafter, particularly in the way of setups and setup/driving guides, as
well as addon-track support.
Team Redline re-releasing the GTP mod with fixes
Steve Smith relayed Team Redline's announcement that the GTP mod would be re-released with physics tweaks and better sounds, along with a separate 1991 IMSA carset. Users asked whether the installer had been fixed. Some suspected the withdrawal had really been for licensing reasons, since names and logos were removed and then reappeared in a third-party carset. Posters also reported AI cars bouncing on some third-party tracks.
Automated summary.
Thanks for the update, Steve! That's great news!!
For those of us who have been enjoying the "1st release" of GTP, would
you recommend that we download and install the new release when it is
available? I probably wouldn't do it for the physics changes alone (as
they seem small), but the new, improved sounds could be worth it. Will
there be a patch available, or will this be a whole new release package
to download/install. I'm on dial-up, so that's why it matters...
Thanks again!
-Pat
When the new version is released the current version will no longer work in
VROC.
Which I figure is worth an upgrade.
Don't know whether there will be a patch, the 300Mb download on dial up is
gonna hurt.

I think the main question is did you fix the install? I'm still a little
wary of it since the first one completely disabled my N2003 and I had to
reinstall everything.

I just recently installed a version I got off of Boomtown with no problems
at all. NR2003 still works fine.
It didn't disturb my N2003 install (which is easy enuf to re-do) but it did
eat all my N2003 mods (which took hours to fix).

LOLOLOL!
So, they take GTP off the web for important copyright issues, remove the
names and logos involved, and on the same date they rerelease it,
another, "independant" team publishes the complete car set with logos,
names, everything, so that everything is back in place within the day of
the release. That is just beautiful, just beautiful.
I would say that it is a big, and thundering "screw you". I don't know
to who, though, hehe.
Hopefully, this sets presedence, so that we can avoid stupid cases like
this again. Ultimatly, I am prepared for a copyright war, where
companies lay down millions in the process of denying someone to put
"Porsche" or "Jaguar" on a car in a friggin' game... Although, for the
time being, I *think* we are protected by the "not for commercial use"
clause.

Yea. I tried that, but it still did not work. I never got it installed.
Tried serveral times. It kept telling me it could not find N2003. Then when
I tried to run N2003, it would kick me back to the desktop. The problem is
it tries to install under C: programs/papyus, which is not where papy
defaults. Papy games always install under C: papyrus. Even when I manually
tried to point it to C: papyrus/GTP it would not install. It also placed a
GTP folder in C:, but would not install there either. I'm not the only one
who had this problem. It's a crap install and needs to be fixed.

when
As can be seen here, there was a major bug in the install.

I am leaning towards disagreeing with this 'BUG' in the installer.
Granted they designed it very poorly. I too lost my sims because I didn't
understand where they wanted their files to go. And for some reason, the
installer DELETES the two video codecs rather than move them to a safe
folder. So it deletes the rend_ogl.dll and and rend_dxg.dll. So if you
can get ahold of those two files, you will get your broken Nr2k3 back.
Once I understood the wants of the installer, I got the gtp mod
installed easily. Runs great, feels great.
I "think" the unfortunate installer problem was used as a cover once the
lawyers stepped in. It will be interesting to see, not so much what extras
they add to the new version, but rather what they took out of v1.0 to
survive legal scrutineering.
btw...has anyone who has gotten gtp to run watched the ai cars BOUNCE at
Le Mans? lol!!

I am inclined to agree with you Dave. My install problem was simply that the
default second part of install where it identified the game as c:\Nascar
Racing 2003 neglected to add \Papyrus\Nascar Racing 2003. After I got that,
there was no problem installing & running.

The AI cars bounce at *some* (but not all) 3rd-party tracks (i.e., not the
Team Redline tracks).

As for the installation problems with the Mod, the instructions in the
readme file were confusing. Rewriting the install instructions in the
readme could have fixed the installation problems. What a great Mod.
