Is the GP3 warez build identical to retail, and will it be patched?

A poster argued that warez pre-releases are almost always identical to the retail versions. Discussion covered whether Hasbro would patch GP3, a report that a patch for the 3-axis controller problem was being worked on, and GP2 never having been patched. A long side argument between Nos and Stephen Ferguson over GP2's pricing in 1997 became abusive.

Having followed the warez scene for a while now, one thing I've noticed is that there is almost never any difference between the warez pre-release and the finished version that I have purchased. As much as the publishers would like the consumer to belive they are still working on the code during the delay between the warez release and the actual release a few days or weeks later, it doesn't happen. The ISO is out today and I'm sure its the same as the final. GP3 will not be changing, until the first patch that is. ----------------------------------------------------------- Got questions? I hear hasbro doesn't do patches, if that's the case this game will go back on the shelf for a lot of people. Vintook "bababooie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Your memory serves you incorrectly. GP2 was a full-ticket game for more than a year in a lot of markets. And it sold well at that price. I bought my copy in the summer of 1997 for full price, with nary a bargain issue to be seen. I have also noticed that it continued to move off the shelves at almost full price even late last year (based on my informal surveying techniques while visiting my local shop in Zuerich from time to time). But seriously, you'd think with the huge finacial success GP2 was, the budget for GP3 would have been somewhat higher than it appears to be, with the small number of improvements. Oh well, we'll never know. GC doesn't talk to his fans, I wonder whether he even looked at some input from the user base. What I do know (from some interview) is that he never looked at any competitors product, and it shows, unfortunately. Blaze

Close, but MS drivers still don't know what to do if you have only one axis on JoyA and two on JoyB as was the case with my homemade wheel and CH pedals setup, I propose they use Papy's drivers instead..... Strange though, my old setup worked like a charm in DOS, there's progress for you Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "Team Mirage" http://www.teammirage.com/ "The Pits" http://www.theuspits.com/ * Spam is for losers who can't get business any other way * "Spamkiller" http://www.spamkiller.com

The price of Longbow was also irrelevant as there is no relationship between the debut price of two different software products. Actually, I'd say you were the one down a few points on the IQ scale for spending 90 bucks to buy Longbow. And by the way, you contradicted yourself. I didn't have to help you. First you said: >That's why it was in the bargain bins within two months of >release (if memory serves me correctly) and there where many >complaints about GP2's shortcomings and lack of even a >rudimentary patch. To which my original reply was simply that I had seen it on the regular shelves, in Future Shop, for substantially more than "bargain" titles. But then later you said: >GP2 was not bargain bin fodder, but it was reduced in price very quickly. >I know this is fact because I remember seeing many people saying they got >it at lower than average price not long after it was released. So make up your mind then. Of course it's all trivial, but a "dumbass" cannot go unchallenged. As for the validity of our statistical surveying methods, I poked my nose into shops in a half dozen countries while looking for time-killing games during boring conferences and actually saw what was o ne the shelf, especially in racing games. You, on the other hand, "remember seeing many people saying" something or another. Yadda yadda yadda. I hope you at least heard them saying it as well. mit freundlichen Grssen Stephen p.s. In 1997? "Budget" releases are 20 buck items. Top level games might have been released at 60 dollars maximum in 1997. Racing games were priced in the 40-50 dollar price range. Yours respectfully Dumbass You know... the guy from Zurich, Chile

I certainly don't think it was "bargain bin" material even more than a year after its release, which means the game had staying power, in contrast to your statement that it was a bug-written, steaming turd which cannonballed straight into the cast-off bin within 16 picoseconds of its release. And yes, $45 was a full price for new titles at a lot of the software shops in Kingston and Toronto in the summer of 97. I never said that and I certainly never meant it to be taken that way. I quite liked GP2, even though it was released missing some features and ran like crap unless you tunred off lots of details. What I am saying is that it was reduced in price quite quickly by Microprose because they knew it was an unfinished product.
