Are we gonna get multiplayer in N4??
Also, does anyone know if you paint a car that it can be seen by others
WITHOUT having to have someone d/l the car and install it on there machine,
like in HEAT?

Will NASCAR Racing 4 share custom car paint online?
Users asked whether NASCAR Racing 4 would have multiplayer and automatically transfer custom paint schemes. Some proposed Quake-style skin downloads, while others worried about bandwidth and duplicate car numbers confusing spotters. Eric Busch said the game already reassigned duplicate numbers and showed a default scheme for unknown custom cars.
With Eric Busch (Papyrus)
Automated summary.
Based on past experience with Papy's sims, it would seem that multiplayer WILL
be in N4, in some form or another.
And I bet that the same car system in place in N3 will be in N4, so yes, we
probably WILL need to download each other's cars.
I doubt Papy would go with Hasbro's system anytime soon.

But the problem is I like running as #24 and don't want to change. Besides,
there's no reason why there can't be 2 # 18's, 3's, 24's, whatever out there
running.
It would be just more of a pain in the arse to find out which car #'s are taken
in a server, then going back to change your number to one that's taken. Then,
how would you feel if someone joined with that number after you had checked the
list of #'s taken?

How would your personal car that you paint make it on to my computer without
me downloading it somewhere along the line? Am I missing some new
communications medium that can beam it over here some other way? I would
love to know about that :)

The primary problem is that everyone's systems would be so busy
transferring car files that nobody would have a good enough connection to
actually drive. The car files are probably going to be even larger for
N4 since we have a larger color palette to deal with.
What we desperately need is a central repository for cars instead of
having HUNDREDS of places on the web to get them (like we do for N3).
It would also be VERY nice if the sim would prevent more than one car
with a given number from connecting to a server.
I'd also like to suggest to the dozens of painters out there to provide
what I refer to as "car blanks" for each of their paint jobs. A "car
blank" is a fully painted car for each chassis but that lacks a car
number. This lets people use your paintjobs but allows them an easy way
to apply their own car numbers. I did it for most of my N3 paintjobs,
and several individuals have taken advantage of it.

Like in HEAT? Umm, I have to download carsets for HEAT. If I don't,
the drivers' car ends up red. How do I enable this autodownload
mechanism?

The chat is a mess in N3 when you have multiple same car numbers. A fix for
that is like GPL to include the initials of the driver. Or put a random
alphabetic number after the car # (ex : 24a, 88b).

The car file contains unessecary information. The PCX files are small, not
even 30kb in Nascar Racing 3. The server already checksums some stuff like
the .TXT, TRK and the .STG file (when racing fixed setups), so why couldn't
it upload 30x30kb? That's not that big when entering a practice session.
You could always have the choice to disable such feature for analogue
connections.
The system in N3 is still very good, but the idea could be pushed even
further. You could always download on centralised websites but instead of
having ourselves the job to download the carfiles, why not also inside the
game?

Ahhh, a reply from a driver who has never run with yellows turned on.
When there's more than one #24, how do you know which one to stay behind
or pass when the spotter is shouting for you to stay behind the 24 car.
Besides that, you should have sveeral versions of your car ready with
different car numbers for just such an occasion (I have #9 and #12 for my
car, as well as a wealth of other cars/car numbers that I've painted and
don't mind using.)
Lastly, it would not be technical unfeasable for the sim to assign an
unused car number and overlay the numbers on the car for you.

That would almost be impossible unless your were assigned a number
that somehow shows up on the car when you enter a race. People would
be blocked from joining in very large numbers. If you had 300 peole
online racing, think of the numbers that you would see on cars. Three
and four digits. Joe Racer driving car # 1,000,000,000 ... LOL
That's not what he asked, he asked in the demo.

This feature has already been implemented. If you join a race using a car
number which is already in use you will automatically be placed in a
different car. Also if you join a race in which other's are using custom
cars that you do not have, instead of seeing them in random cars, you'll see
them in a default paintjob with the proper number automatically applied.
Then end result is that there can be only one instance of a car number in
each race, and everyone in the race will see everyone in the proper numbered
cars.

It was bloody annoying joining Quake(1) servers only to have to wait ages
to DL some tart's idea of a kEwL skin.
It'd be a nice option, I guess... as long as I can disable it! I much
prefer the idea of a central pool of skins which we can DL from if we want
to, when we want to (ie never :-)

Yet Papyrus created a system in N3 that allows the public download of
carfiles on the net. Isn't that a little too much "Pontius Pilate" here for
N4?

Allowing carfiles to be distributed is a separate issue than providing the
in-game means and transport of said files. This was one of the things
preventing WonSwap from being used to distribute car user created carfiles.

Which is doing like Pontius Pilate, but that's not necessarily a bad thing,
considering the way it is done in N3 will speculatively be kept in N4. An
option is better then none. Letting the people create their own systems
even if it's not legal, that takes the blame out of Sierra if any actions
would be taken. Which leads to the whole community support (cars, tracks,
utilities, etc..) and how illegal they are from a point of view of a lawyer
<g> :)
Is the "transport" the key issue here? Papyrus still offers a paintkit per
example, and thus the possibility to legally add any kind of commercial
product name/logo/likeness without it's consent and distribute them in-game.
On another subject, is the Eula.txt found in the demo representative of the
Eula that will be in the full release of N4?
