N4: It is the set-ups...and the wonky AI

Flame warNASCAR 4 AI difficulty varies wildly between tracks

Marc Collins found that with the same 100% AI strength he ran last at some tracks but led at Homestead with a downloaded setup, suggesting setups and inconsistent AI. Others shared setup guides and qualifying speeds, while an abusive reply accused him of constant complaining. He asked for per-track AI settings.

I was wondering why I was running dead last at so many tracks in N4 set at full realism and 100%. Tried Homestead and magically I was mid-pack (about 20th). Loaded up the BHM set-up and boom, within 3 laps I am running at the front. Top 5 easily over the long run. I don't consider Homestead to be one of the easier tracks, so why can I run in the top 5 there with zero practise and about 6 laps under my belt, but at Michigan or Atlanta I am still at the back of the pack after hundreds of laps. Atlanta was my best track in N3 and it sure doesn't seem so hard when I am driving it. I am having no problem holding my line, but the speed just isn't there (compared to the AI). Something is wrong and it is seeming less and less like it is me... Just play a little with your Atlanta setup. 100% AI there is not that hard to keep up with. Except maybe with the default setups. -- Fester
You know, I am really getting tired of asinine non-responses like yours. If you don't like what I am posting, don't read it and certainly don't reply to it. I am asking others if they are experiencing what I am experiencing. You can call that a complaint if you want--I don't. It may turn into a complain if many others are finding the same things I am, but I am not stupid enough to assume there is a problem with the game when it may be me. There are several flaws in N4 that I can be sure of, however. A moron could spot them in less than 5 minutes of play. If you don't have an experience to relate/share, then f*** off. Marc. Using what set-ups? On full realism settings? I somehow don't think this is the general experience out there. Marc. So what set-up for Atlanta do you use? The BHM one is vastly better (for me) than the Intermediate or Fast ones, but... Marc. Marc Collins wrote: > > So what set-up for Atlanta do you use? The BHM one is vastly better (for > me) than the Intermediate or Fast ones, but... Honestly, I took one & just used Rodney Arndt's setup guide available at http://www.sascar.com to further tweak it. This guide seems to be a real help. To anyone out there, I'd suggest reading the entire document and then really focus on the tire temperature section as you test & tweak. I know it has helped me a great deal. I'm still refining the setup out at Atlanta myself, but I'm getting much closer to being content with it. I've got maybe 2 hours into the tweak project so far. And keeping up with the AI at 100% here is not a problem. Keeping up with the really fast drivers online is a whole lot harder than the AI! ;-) -- Fester

My problem is that if I try to mimic the AI's line and speed, I invariably either spin out or push up into the wall. Dunno how they do it. Has anyone run the 190+ MPH qualifying laps that the NASCAR boys turned last week? John DiFool
This problem exists in every sim. There is HUGE variation in the skill, talent and wisdom of sim racers. N4 cannot be expected to magically know how quick you are. That's why they made the AI adjustable in the first place. I reccomend you shamelessly set the AI to 99% or whatever, and try to enjoy it. -A "Marc Collins" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:QrYr6.391464$[email hidden]... > I was wondering why I was running dead last at so many tracks in N4 set at > full realism and 100%. The point is that they vary from track to track--wildly. I would be delighted if I could set the AI % at each track. I don't want to have to have a spreadsheet beside me to assist in changing the % every time I go from one track to the next. With only a dozen or so laps at each track (but giving the AI lots of time to run their best laps) here are my positions (all at 100%): Talladega - 1; Homestead - 3; Rockingham - 43; Las Vegas - 43. At other tracks, I have driven hundreds of laps with various set-ups and am 43rd. I just don't believe I could run 3rd at Homestead after 10 laps, but not be able to at least run with the field at Atlanta after 200 laps. I have lots of experience with racing sims and unlike GPL, where I could easily tell why I was slower than the AI (when I was), I don't have that with N4....yet anyways. If all these other guys can do it, I will be able to as well. But plugging in a new set-up makes an enormous difference in lap times/speeds. I have gone from 50 or 100 laps and the best being 3 mph per lap slower than car 42 to a position in the low 30's on the first (non-out) lap with a better set-up. It's like night and day. Marc.
