Yes I have tried this treasure, it doesn't crash to desktop, it does not
whine about any of my apps (I did shut down Daemon toolz), long ago removed
cdspace. Yet we simply crash hell hard to BIOS screen with a 'device driver
but we're not sure which one or why" from XP Pro's error reporting tool
Last driver for gfx (geforce6600gt) that I installed was the ones that came
with Battle Field 2 demo, is that what the problem might be? or is the
Star-farce? seems a pity that they couldn't just tell me it didn't want to
install or run if my app offended so much, I did install GTR demo, it ran
fine.
Ill try gfx update, hope I can play other games after this, the new drivers
liked to kill NR03 IMHO from 96 fps to 40 at same settings...
GT Legends demo causes hard reboots on some PCs
Several users reported the GT Legends demo causing instant hard reboots with driver-related stop errors. StarForce was suspected, but Tony Rickard found that disabling Avast anti-virus fixed it, and others confirmed this. The thread drifted into a dispute about top-posting.

Updated drivers, still no joy, crash (hard reset as if you pressed the
button) or unplugged from wall...

There is a program that completely uninstalls starforce drivers, if that's
what you have to end up doing. I'm not sure what that will do to GTR. My
guess is you'll have to reinsert the disk and it will reinstall the drivers.
You might try that. Where this utility is, I don't know. But I know it
exists.
Whatever the case, your system's video drivers probably need to be flushed
out, also. There are tools that get rid of all vestiges of old drivers.
Those are the first two things I would do, if you want to run the demo.

Avast was causing the problem for me. Disabling it worked straight away.
Never had the same problem with GTR though.
Tony
Wait till the game is released without starforce then download it.
Its almost as if that's what the developers want you to do.

NEC DVD-+RW. I own 4 Starforce games and haven't noticed the slightest
issue with any of them. My old AthlonXP 3200+ and GF4 Ti4600 doesn't have
any problems either. I have had Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120% (several

Is there any hardware in particular that doesn't like Starforce? Is it
mainly to do with the brand of dvd-rom?
It did a hard reboot on me once but I reduced from 1280x1024 to

SF is the issue because that is what was causing his PC to not be able to

their were more some of which may have worked. But he lost patience and

1) I top post because it's easier to read and am not concerned about
perceived poor etiquette on Usenet. If I don't understand the message, I
scroll down till I have the context. With bottom posting, I scroll through
a hundred lines of previous comments just to read a "Me too" and have to
scroll up to find out what the comment was about.
2) I also am quite proficient at building and configuring computers and
games to run on them. Everything I have, from GTR to Battlefield 2 runs
with no problems. The GTL demo crashes as soon as I try to launch it. Is
it the Starforce drivers? I don't know. As I said, GTR runs fine. Will I
disable or uninstall virus software (or any application for that matter) to
get a demo to run? Absolutely not. If a simple fix or a new demo isn't
available by the time GTL is released, I won't buy GTL. I'm sure someone
will say it's my loss. Perhaps so, but I won't lose the $50 buying a game
whose demo won't even run.
3) Rant mode off.

Thats fair enough. Like I said it isnt really an issue for me, I just
thought it was a bit rich of Mitch to have a go at someone else.
But I'll just leave it that, it's a bit of a silly argument really.
I also wouldn't recommeded to anyone to disable any security software
to get something else to run.
I havent really bought any games for my PC for quite a while. For one
reason my laptop isnt up to running anything more graphically advanced
than Half Life and I havent been able to afford a new PC while being a
student. I have been looking at getting one now (especially after
seeing GT Legends!), but really should pay off the overdraft first!
And secondly it can be so much hassle at times and I have more than
enough games to get through on my several consoles lying around the
flat (much to my girlfriends annoyance :-) ) that I havent been in a
hurry to get back into it.
