I wonder how the LPI is calculated.
After doing two error-free 16 lappers at Indy, my LPI rose by 3 or 4 from
41.something or 42.something to 45.1. After doing a 32-lapper with one spin
in lap 11 (no one else involved and I continued the race, obviously) the LPI
dropped by 4 to 41.1. Unfair!! <g>
Especially since most accidents I had in all previous races were caused by
intentional wreckers, grrrr... <g>

How N4's online LPI incident rating is calculated
Joachim Trensz asked why his N4 online LPI fell sharply after one spin but rose only slowly after clean races. Others explained that LPI is laps divided by incidents, where any event that would cause a yellow counts, so changes depend on prior incident totals. Posters complained that being wrecked by others also hurts LPI.

I understand it's an incident that would have brought out the yellow
flag (if yellow flags have been disabled in the race)
I've had about 5 pickup races and my LPI is 17.1. Every race I've been
in I've been either wrecked intentionally or collided with someone that
has been wrecked. I've even been taken out before the start.
The last race I had at Tally, last lap and leading on the last corner,
a backmarker was drafting me, went below the white line and spun me
into the wall.
I believe the LPI should be calculated if you were in the original
incident that would have caused a yellow. It's a little unfair to be
penalised if half the field has spun infront of you and you clip one
on the way through and spin.
I'm a very clean racer, but when they see my LPI they think I'm a
wrecker. Yet, I've never had a race where I've been taken out where
I wasn't the instigator. (at least a race on sierra.com)
Cheers,
Rod.
So does anyone know the e-mail to send replays to???? I have a couple of a
known wrecker.....blatant as heck....
(Don't gimme NOCRAP in E-mail)
You're lucky your CD key hasn't been banned, mine was and I'm in about the
same boat as you :-(
I always raced clean and sometimes you get caught up in others wrecks and
wind up losing LPIs.

So why does 32 laps with one accident reduce my LPI by 4, but 16 clean laps
only increase it by one? :-)

Then it's just: laps done / incidents.

Hmmmm...I believe you meant "I've never had a race where I've been taken out
where I WAS the instigator"...not "wasn't".

Mathematics. It's calcultated by number of laps done divided by number
of incidents. With one more incident the number is falling more if you
have few incidents before that, but with many incidents it doesn't
fall much. Of course it's the other way too, that with few incidents
the lpi rises rapidly, but with many it's hard work. I think i got
some 40+ incidents now, most of them caused by wreckers and bad
drivers, and keeping the lpi over 30 requires a lot of laps.
What I really want to see is a timestamp on the incidents, and that
after so and so many laps, or weeks they get erased, since most of us
have more incidents when we started racing but fewer now.

Until they come up with a way to differentiate "incidents caused" and
"incidents suffered - for whatever reason besides your own stupidity",
I think it is a relatively meaningless statistic.
Olav does make an interesting point, though. Since the ratings take
only your last 10 races or so, why shouldn't the LPI? Perhaps it
should be an average, rather than an absolute number. Theoretically,
someone could enter a server as a new driver, drive a 1/2 length race
where there are no incidents (say in a league or something) and have a
LPI of 100 or so. Whereas the average driver who has driven hundreds
of laps on pick-up servers is probably down around 20 or so.
Meaningless. With the risk of out profiles looking like the back of a
baseball card, we need more data...
It would be nice if the ratings were track-specific, too. I know if
all I do is race SS's it steadily climbs, but a few races at someplace
like Richmond or Darlington where it is really hard to find a race
ranked other than 0-10, and it steadily tanks.

but it might be too hard for the N4 online Sierra.com? Is a kind of
a 'snap-shot' log type that could record the IC.. I now understand
[which I didn't before] that *Any* incident that would bring out a
Yellow is an 'IC' but it would be great to have a running log of all
the wrecks as some are by warps too. jmhi :) btw: warping seems
to becoming worse then wreckers lately?? I wonder if the band is
starting to be "over-crowded" or something?

The odds of not getting involved in an incident in pickup races is
pretty damned low, though, especially on the 0-10 servers or at tracks
that require any sort of braking, which is why I don't really find LPI
meaningful, especially as implemented.

I don't do any crash feasts after finishing <g> but of course, the warping
could have happened. I tend to have good connects (ADSL), but you never
know.
As for the address, there is no such address for the general public. From
what I understand there are people who are monitoring races, and there are
drivers who got banned. But it isn't done on a complaint-and-replay-checking
basis.

Me? I've given up on trying to get the LPI up.
Last time trying:
Found a 20 lap Daytona race with a 4 rating, looked like a good bunch of
racers,
(Wreakers must have been all safely tucked into their cribs, 4am).
Poled 14th outa 20 or so. Allot of warping,
(Just because the host has "Cable" doesn't mean 20 car race will be warp
free).
No Melee on the first lap, and avoided the 2nd & 3rd lap Hotlapper spins.
By the 5th lap, "Big Wreak" (rest of the hotlappers,,, LOL) went from 14th
to 7th.
Found a good drafting partner and by the 14th lap was in 3rd.
Didn't try to challenge 2nd for rest of the race, because of "The Warp".
I was just happy to be in third, remember this was to get the LPI back up.
On the 20th lap, 1st gets taken out by the 8th place car going out of turn
4,
(Don't know if it was payback for an earlier incident).
2nd and I are 2 seconds behind. 2nd panics and heads for the grass, I go to
the apron,
(Never listen to that Damn Spotter,,, he he).
I get 2nd at the start/finish line .110 behind 1st. 1st comes back up on the
track from grass and swerve's to wall in front of me, comes back down an
clips me, (I'm in the low groove to the right of line slowing). Guess he was
headed for the grass/chat area to thank me for being a good draft partner.
I spin to the grass and in my "What the fook" state, rocket up to the wall
just outside turn one.
Then 6th and 11th place cars get into each other avoiding the original 8th &
1st incident out of turn 4.
Their outta control after start/finish avoiding the winner coming off the
wall and one of them baffo's me in the rear end as I'm getting things
straightened out to head back to the pits. BIG INCIDENT !
(Yea I do things like in the real races, "Head to the pits" when race ends).
That's it, LPI out the window, Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. oh
well.
Anyone at Papy wanna see my BS009 or WrongWay1 replays?
