Has anyone tried the RALLY CHAMPION EXTREME demo, is it impressive ?

First impressions of the Rally Championship Xtreme demo

Olly Greenfield asked whether the Rally Championship Xtreme demo was worth downloading. Impressions were mixed to negative: some praised graphics and found the physics decent, but many reported control lag or oversensitivity, no force feedback, automatic gears only, graphical corruption and poor frame rates. David G Fisher explained that it used the Rally Championship 2000 engine but came from a new developer because Magnetic Fields had closed.

I am considering downloading this rather large file, and was wondering if it is worth my time.
best rallying game to date for me I miss the narrower RC2000 roads (in rally xtreme roads are WWWWWIIIIIIIIDDDDDEEEEE) The physics are quite good, but cant find how to switch automatic shifting off :) Olly Greenfield <[email hidden]> escribi en el mensaje de noticias eYJj7.68$[email hidden]... > I am considering downloading this rather large file, and was wondering ifit > is worth my time. > >

It automatically detected my wheel with split axis pedals and works fine... The physics are descent, but with some arcade parameters. Car models are ugly, stages aren't real, but nice, about 2-2 1/2 lanes, a bit narrower than most rally sims. A lot better than I originally expected, but still not great. I still reccomend you download it though Thanks, Alex Olly Greenfield <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:eYJj7.68$[email hidden]... > I am considering downloading this rather large file, and was wondering ifit > is worth my time. > >

Graphics are pretty amazing but it screwed up my wheel settings. I need to apply full gas and brake to move and when I let off brake, it is then applied. -- Kevin Anderson [email hidden] "Marc Collins" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:czUj7.71611$[email hidden]... > That's truly a miracle! > > Marc > > "Alex Kihurani" <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:91Nj7.1409$[email hidden]... > > It automatically detected my wheel with split axis pedals and works > fine... > > > > Thanks, > > Alex > > Thore Sorensen <[email hidden]> wrote in message > > news:[email hidden]... > > > On Fri, 31 Aug 2001 10:48:42 GMT, "Olly Greenfield" > > > <[email hidden]> wrote: > > > > > > >I am considering downloading this rather large file, and was wondering > if > > it > > > >is worth my time. > > > > > > > I tried the other night...1. look: > > > > > > Keyboard support only solution and no redefine of keys...u have to stick > > > with the cursorkeys for fwd/break/left/right. > > > In my opinion better than the old RC2K...could never get RC2K to work > > > with my keyboard... > > > > > > 1 stage...1 car..:(... > > > > > > If u have a fast connection....get it...45MB > > > > > > I will stick to RM until RT...:) > > > > > > -- > > > Med venlig hilsen / Best regards > > > Thore Sorensen - DK-2700 Bronshoj > > > >
A lot of texture / 3D object corruption (cockpit view is a total mess), no FF and either way too much control sensitivity or major control lag here. Automatic gears only, automatic reverse including pedal "switch" (brake becomes gas and gas becomes brake), which I hate. What's wrong with Drive - Neutral - Reverse through paddles? This demo does little to sell me on the game, completely unplayable. No texture probs at all here, cockpit view is as it should be, and the game runs surprisingly smooth in 1280 res at 32bit. I do however have the same control problems as you have - making the game unplayable indeed. VERY frustrating, there is no way now to judge the demo..baaaad move. I have a LWFF + CH pedals and OFCOURSE it didn't reckognize my CH pedals. Even worse, I had to delete my pedals from the windows->game controllers menu before it reckognized my wheel. >Automatic gears only, automatic reverse including pedal "switch" (brake >becomes gas and gas becomes brake), which I hate. What's wrong with Drive - >Neutral - Reverse through paddles? Tell me about it -especially the automatic reverse at the most unsuitable moments- anooooying!! >This demo does little to sell me on the game, completely unplayable. Well.. If the steering problems are solved (they can't sell the final version with these steering problems.. allthough I said the same thing about F1RC, boy was I wrong) it could be a very nice game... I -love- the track.. the terrain is incredibly open, you can drive off-road over grass and rocks, but to get a decent time you have to stick to the road as much as possible - and the road itself it quite narrow. Shame about this demo because of the ridiculous controller problems, but I still have hope for this one.. :) PS gfx are very nice - especially replays looks very good, but surprisingly enough it doesn't match the graphic quality of RC2000 - this is by the same company right? Well, my system: P3 866 GF2 GTS win98se, dx8a SB Live 32 Logitec wheel + CH pedals Andre

Nope. Same publisher, different developer (no longer Magnetic Fields). David G Fisher "Andre Warringa" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Very poor IMO. Installer said I didn't have enough space to install demo, even though I had 650 Mb. Finally got it to install with 750 Mb free, even though the demo only actually took 65Mb !! Game itself - average graphics, average physics, poor framerate. Couldn't find a way of quitting the game (which I wanted to do almost immediately). My opinion - don't bother. It's not often a game actually makes me angry, but this one did. "p" to call pauze menu, you can quit from there. Jan. =--- Mike Stanley wrote... > <snip> Game itself - average graphics, average physics, poor > framerate. Couldn't find a way of quitting the game (which I > wanted to do almost immediately).

It's sort of the follow up to RC2000 (uses the same game engine). It's not a sim of the BRC or any other real rally series, and has a different developer. David G Fisher "Andre Warringa" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

That's kinda odd, changing development teams but keeping the software engine....Could this be a spin-off company of the original programmers? dave henrie "David G Fisher" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:hD2k7.159156$[email hidden]... > It's sort of the follow up to RC2000 (uses the same game engine). Magnetic Fields is no more, so the publisher passed the game engine on to the new developer. Oh yes, didn't find this. Unfortunately it crashed on quitting though, forcing me to hard reboot :( This game is doing little to endear itself to me ... "Jan Verschueren" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:e12k7.30210$[email hidden]...

Hey guys, I spent a long time downloading it and was disappointed with the low frame rate with my PIII 450 mhz with my 3dfx 3000 AGP card. It doesn't even have a control setup screen although it has a control.jpg file I assume it was the age of my computer so I uninstalled it and went back to CMR 2.0 Tim A. I'm really surprised about the framerate problems everybody seems to have with Rally Extreme.. P3 866 GF2 GTS here, and silky smooth fps in 1280res 32 bit, even when I make an extreme accident. I think I prefer this one too CMR2 if they get the controller problems fixed.. the driving in CMR2 is kinda fun, but I truly hate the tracks in CMR2. I liked the track in Rally X, wide open areas but the track itself is quite narrow. I think the V3 card is the bottleneck on your system.. d3d games like N4 and F1CS got a MUCH better framerate when I went from my P3 500 V3 to my P3 866 GF2 GTS. Andre >Tim A. Olly Greenfield wrote: > I am considering downloading this rather large file, and was wondering if it > is worth my time. IMO Car physics is very arcade and can't be consider to be a bit realistic. Graphics are poor ( GForce 2 MX ) , the environemental effect is excessive. Gravel projections are not bad, they bounce on the ground. Cockpit view is good. regards, -- Sebastien TIXIER - Game Developer Dynamics and Car Physics http://www.eden-studios.fr GPLRank Normal:-42.98 Monster:-117.44
