NASCAR 5 feature wish list

Following rumours of a March 2002 release, Gerald Moore asked what people wanted in the next Papyrus NASCAR sim. Suggestions included better damage with debris and oil, dynamic weather, adjustable seating position, a smarter spotter, realistic qualifying, a track editor, better frame rates and current schedules. Alan Bernardo's demand that GPL and CART fans get their own newsgroup drew a rebuke from ymenard and others citing the group's charter.

Since the rumors have already started flying about a March 02 release (yeah right)... what would everybody like to see in N5? Off the top of my head: - improved vehicle damage model - debris on track causes cut tires - blown engines drop oil - fire! fire! FIRE! - dynamic weather during race - larger textures for cars - set the game in 1985, or 1955, or... Cheers, Gerald

I agree with everything but settibng the game in the past. I want a *modern* NASCAR sim, lol. Also, give us more options for tuning during a race, specifically the ability to change the brake bias from within the car like the real cup cars can now. Also, move the cockpit view over and up where it should be. As it is now we have a lowered *tv in-car* instead of a real driving position. I've been in cup cars and even driven one at Fast Track Driving school down in Charlotte, you CAN see the hood when sitting in one of these things.
I have a feeling N5 will be the expansion pack type thing. Kinda like NR99. I really doubt they will redo everything in less than a year. I do like the 1980s idea alot. MadDAWG

FWIW, IF they plan on releasing GPL2 next fall, then they are already well underway. While both may be based on the same code, there will be two teams working out the details I would think. dave henrie

Oki, I'll swallow this bait too and would like to add: - being able to see more Pitcrew's (i.e the competition) - the ability to use worn ("scrubbed") tires during practise sessions - imporved spotter / crewchief (give the spotter more "AI") - the ability to loose one cylinder and still be able to complete the race - better engine-damage model - ability to see whilch part of a tire that get's worn first: I / M / O (i.e. spilt the "wear-bar" into 3 "dots" that change colour according to wear: Green => Yellow =>Red => Gone! Once one of the three "dots" have gone - the tire has blown (puncture). - a better solution to the "wall-riding problem" -- ed_ -- NOTE! I have to disagree with you about the view. It really depends upon the driver as to their view. Dale Earnhardt sat very low in his car and could not see his hood. Dale Jr does not see his hood, however some others may. Everyone has a different seating position. Maybe make it a little adjustable, now that would be nice "SimRacer" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:KuSG7.8974$[email hidden]...

Here here on the wall riding deal. I don't have many problems with it as-is, but T3-4 at Darlington are terrbile, I mean you HAVE to brush those on occasion... I have seen a guy emitting engine smoke (like he had lost a cylinder) and he managed to smoke his way around 5 laps at Watkins Glen to finish a race. Wonder what that was? (No sarcasm, general curiousity) Punctured or blown tires. They are close, I've driven so far past *red* that my tire no longer registered any air pressure. But driving over debris to cause a puncture would be neat, but they will never implementt it. With the amount of criticism I see about how "unrealistic" the grip is and how newbies can't go a lap without spinning after first getting the game, they'll never make it this real or it simply won't sell.
Didn't SCGT or Viper have an adjustable seating position? Or maybe NFS Porsche? Anyway, it should be an easy thing to implement. Up/Down, and Forward/Back. Hell, maybe even Left/Right so you could try driving a stock car from the right hand "seat" <g> "Cliff Roman" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > I have to disagree with you about the view. > > It really depends upon the driver as to their view. This is actually a damn good idea! Allowing for "personalized seating posistion" within a set "box" or boundries would be great! Allow for each driver to choose his own posistion so that those who like to sit upfront and/or uphigh can see the hood and those that like to sit low or further back will see more of the sky... Naturally the change of seating posistion will come at a prize... - weigth! Move the seating posistion around and you move the centre of gravity around... - the higher you sit the more you roll :-) Damn... this *is* a good idea! -- ed_ "Rob Adams" wrote: > Anyway, it should be an easy thing to implement. Yes! Add an adjustable figure to force you to make the field. Say 45 drivers vying for 42 positions. > - set the game in 1985, or 1955, or... Save this for NASCAR Legends 2. They sure shoulda waited to release NL with the N4 engine, I think it would have fared much better. -- Fester

Is the current view from too high or too low in the car, relative to where the driver sits? On high-banked ovals you want to be as low as possible to maximize your view around the corner. Actually, to me it seems rather far back, but I think this is to give us a wider FOV. Here's something else: enable the hat switch so we can look around better and not have to rely on the tiny mirror so much. Gerald

- Virtual cockpit, like in flight simulators, i.e. instead of having three fixed viewing angles (forward, left, and right) I want free head rotation so that I can look into the turns as I approach them. No idea how you would handle that from a controller standpoint, but I still think it would be a cool feature. - FOV adjustment in the options menu. One size does not fit all. - As someone else mentioned, being able to move the eyepoint around within a realistic range. Those three things would end all the discussion about the usefulness and accuracy of the cockpit view once and for all, IMO. If you don't like it, you can change it. Only haveing 8 is kinda rediculous since there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for their selection.

Why is it so "childish" and "naive"? Maybe I can understand the first, but the naive thing is puzzling to me. Why can't Nascar and GPL have their own newsgroups? You guys just go rehash the same things over and over and over and it gets rather tedious in here, almost makes a person want to shuck this group completely. With your own newsgroup you guys can all try to dominate yourself instead of trying to elitist your way into this group and ruin in for most of us. Seems like a fair proposal to me and not at all, as you say, childish and naive. How is it 'elitest' to ask people what they'd like to see in a future game? It seems like discussing ideas is a GOOD thing. That's the whole point of newsgroups anyway, isn't it? That is true, it could affect connections. The time it takes can vary with the length of the track but like I said, it is realtime. We will attemp to qualify 40 on sunday night at Daytona and it should take about 2 hours, maybe less. It is done during a practice session so you can reconnect without problem and your time is maintained. -- Mike Grandy www.precision-racing.com "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > In article <CdcH7.43827$[email hidden]>, "Mike Grandy" > <[email hidden]> writes: > > >The VRW is doing realtime qualifications where you line up on pit road and > >official send you out one car at a time.
