Notable threadFlame warThe Pits releases 1970 Grand National mod for NR2003

The Pits released its 1970 Grand National mod for NR2003, and users praised it while mirrors were posted after the host's bandwidth ran out. Bruce Kennewell created a full 1970 season file, and some reported frame-rate drops. ymenard called it useless because it used existing truck physics after iRacing blocked custom physics, leading to a heated exchange; Goy Larsen of The Pits clarified the iRacing issue.

Wow! I've got used to amazing mods but horseracing!! Can't wait to try the Aintree track, Beecher's Brook, the Chair... I've got it wrong, haven't I?
Yes, I picked this up late last night and didn't go to bed until after 1:30 this morning! An excellent mod which made me reinstall N2003. I spent several hours racing the AI at Riverside, Bridgehampton, Daytona 1970...............fabulous! Thanks, The Pits, and a very Happy 10th. Birthday to you all. Bruce. Their web host stops all access to the site once their bandwidth has been exceeded. Looks like it happened sometime this morning.

If anyone is the slightest bit interested, I have created the 48-event .INI season file for 1970. Some tracks are either not obtainable (to my knowledge, after several searches) and I have, therefore, substituted my own stand-ins. I have included the information as to the veracity of the track being used for each of the 48 events, as per the following examples.............. ============================== [ Event7 ] day = 15 ; Day of the event [1-31] month = 3 ; Month of the event [1-12] name = Savannah 200 ; Name of the event numberOfLaps = 80 ; Number of laps for the race session trackDirectory = ontario ; Directory for the track data - actual Savannah startingGrid = 1 ; Starting grid: grid_2x2_InLinePoleOnLeft [ Event8 ] day = 29 ; Day of the event [1-31] month = 3 ; Month of the event [1-12] name = Atlanta 500 ; Name of the event numberOfLaps = 325 ; Number of laps for the race session trackDirectory = atlanta ; Directory for the track data - actual Atlanta startingGrid = 1 ; Starting grid: grid_2x2_InLinePoleOnLeft =========================================================== It took me a couple of hours to create it, downloading tracks, obtaining race-date and track info and getting the race lengths correct in each case. As the TXT file is only 21Kb in size and if anyone would like it....in order to save creating your own....just email me. That was certainly a bloody long season back in those days....started on January 18th. and finished on 22nd. November!! It 'was' going to be a unique physics package but First/iRacing prevented that. I think they use the Busch or CTS physics rather than PTA. dh

Hi, same here ATI X800XT, 1024MB. Pentium IV 3.06. Frames do also not belong to FSAA settings, all the same, Drops below 25 sometimes in a race. Such a shame, since I love thos cars and would love to do more races against the AI... Greetings, Michael "Kerry" <[email hidden]> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:[email hidden]...

"Useless"?! Since when has any mod to a computer game been considered useful? If you want "useful", try Excel or maybe Word. This is a hugely entertaining mod....particularly for those who revelled in NASCAR Legends and who enjoy historic motor-racing. There is something rather delightful about seeing - and being part of - a flock of 1970's stockers powering around Riverside, usefulness notwithstanding. I think the track.ini files have been tweaked to resemble these cars correct? The 70 tracks maybe? Kerry
Yep, I have a ATI 9700 and I am using the latest Omega drivers. My frames get down in the 12-15 range. Kerry Michael Staab wrote:

Useless as its Craftman's trucks disguised with a different body. It's not Nascar from the 70's, not at all, it's a "faked realism". Nascar Legends has more realism than that. "Faked realism" Jesus H. Christ....what the hell do you think computer sims are?!! And NASCAR Legends >>doesn't<< have more realism; the cars sit as if glued to the track. At least the n2003 machines move around. As for idiots, Frankie, you really shouldn't cast stones. Sorry the fact that it's basically 2003 trucks you're racing puts that mod more useless than Nascar Legends. They should have dropped the mod when the idiots at F1RST did their move. So what if the physics of NL are a little more ancient? It driver closer to what they were back then than the trucks physics. > As for idiots, Frankie, you really shouldn't cast stones. Have you ever driven a large, early-1970's V8-powered car? Not necessarily a stock car.....even a worked-over two or four-door sedan? If so, then you wouldn't spout the drivel that you have regarding the physics of NASCAR Legends.....you may not believe it but they DO NOT handle like F1 cars. If Trucks was at the left-hand end of the scale and F1 cars at the right-hand extremity, then the pointer for 1970's stock-cars would be in the left third of the scale. You haven't changed in over six years, Frankie. Still spouting utter rubbish at the best of times. First of all, no pun intended, we've never had a problem with F1RST, quite the opposite actually as the nice people over there said they'd do their best to support any future mods we'd come up with, if on the other hand you are talking about FIRST, or more correctly iRacing, then yes, they've been less than supportive towards us but we've moved past that.....for the most part Secondly, you're talking about something you don't have a clue about, not because you don't have a clue about sim racing, although reading your comments lately I'm not all that impressed, but quite simply because you're talking down something you don't even have the basics to have an opinion about because you haven't even tried it !, and your comments show that you haven't tried it because there are several tracks made with this mod in mind that not only capture the "feel" of the area graphically, but also come with tweaked track.ini's, that a lot of people in the community have put countless hours into beta testing, that make these cars handle quite differently from a CTS truck. So while it's true that this mod isn't all it could have been it's certainly not "just" another mod using the CTS physics, which you would have known had you bothered to look around instead of just writing it off without a second glance. While this concludes The Pits' direct involvement in N2003 modding, or hacking as some people like to call it, maybe except to fix the odd bug that might have slipped through Beta testing, there are several track makers who are very interested in keeping this particular mod alive, just as they have with the Aero88 mod, and have several tracks in the making and even more planned 2 years ago there were no "real" mods made for the N4-2003 series of Papy's sims, and yet people painted touring cars schemes on Nascar bodies and ran them on road courses with CUP physics, bodged Cup physics at that, back in 99/00 we ran touring car leagues using super touring bodies and CTS physics, have you forgotten all this Frank ? While I agree that we've all moved on a bit since then and now expect more accurate physics than that this new mod, just like the recently released AD67 mod, is certainly not "useless" to people who have a fondness for the era in question and a bit of imagination to make up for the shortcomings in the physics department, we just completed the BR1000 with the AD67 mod and the 40 or so teams that entered seems to have enjoyed themselves quite a bit, so to them the AD67 mod certainly wasn't "useless" even if it uses the T/A physics thanx to iRacing You've become a spoilt elitist Frank, the sim world is far from perfect and sometimes we have to make the best of what we've got, and for die hard Nascar fans who has been waiting two years for this particular mod, N2003 with CTS physics and tweaked ini's are probably quite preferable to waiting another year (or whatever) for an rFactor version as that would have meant starting over yet again Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "When two or more people are gathered together in my name, they shall perform the Parrot Sketch..." --Our Lord John Cleese--

So I say it's a shame that it's basically trucks with different polygons, and that NL is perhaps as good if not better. And Bruce goes into this sort of rampage like he usually does (god forbid somebody makes a speeeeelling error it might kill him). What's wrong with that? I even congratulated them on the effort even if I felt it was unecessary to continue working on it in the end. They should have made it for RF (it would really need a mod like this). >there are several tracks made with this mod in > mind that not only capture the "feel" of the area > graphically, but also come with tweaked track.ini's, Yep, I gladly took the tracks and filtered them in either my oval or roadcourse folder for NR2003. > 2 years ago there were no "real" mods made for the N4-2003 series of > Papy's sims, and yet people painted touring cars schemes on Nascar > bodies and ran them on road courses with CUP physics, bodged Cup physics > at that, back in 99/00 we ran touring car leagues using super touring > bodies and CTS physics, have you forgotten all this Frank ? That was 2 years ago. Meanwhile RF is strulling to keep it's customer base and increase it's membership. You think I spout random rambling like that? It's rambling yeah but its not random <g>. Ok perhaps a little.... chaotic and lunatic. > You've become a spoilt elitist Frank I'm simply stating facts about the community. Some mods are released too soon, others too late. Some should have been for other sims. It happens. p.s.: We wouldn't have waited a year for a RF version of the mod. If a mod that was already that perfected some time ago takes a year to release in RF, RF is already dead, people will drop like flies and it'll be yet-another-ISI-related-sim-that-we-race-for-6-months-and-move-onto-the-next-project-with-the-same-problems-unfixed -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- This announcement is brought to you by the Shimago-Dominguez Corporation - helping America into the New World...

You really just don't get it, do you? It has >>nothing<< whatsoever to do with nostalgia - if it did have then I'd be agreeing that NASCAR Legends is the best thing since sliced bread.
