Bump drafting in NASCAR 4 and NR2002

A poster asked why the slightest bump drafting spins the car ahead in NASCAR 4 and NR2002. Several said it works in NR2002 when both drivers expect it, while others preferred NASCAR Heat for close pack racing. John Pancoast argued NR2002 finally felt like a heavy stock car, unlike NASCAR 4, which he said felt like GPL with stock car bodies.

What happened to bump drafting in N4 and NR2002? I noticed the slightest bump of the car in front of you, causes it to spin out.

No problem here with N4 or N2002 bumpdrafting, at least in multiplayer. -- Mike Grandy www.precision-racing.com "jaf" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > What happened to bump drafting in N4 and NR2002? You rub the bumpers of the other players in online races? I doubt they would appreciate that. I don't know about N2002, but N4 would cause a spin out just about everytime I tried to do this. Nascar Heat I find much better/fun for racing bumper to bumper.

If done properly and against people with good connections it works online but most people just aren't good enough to make it work. Both drivers must know what is going on and what to expect. Over all though it doesn't really help speeds much for the risk. I've let Mike rub me from behind at Daytona a few times....errr...let me re-word that... We've bumpdrafted with no problems at all in N4. It helps that the car in front knows it coming, though. :) "lane" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a504h8$3jh4m$[email hidden]... > > "Mike Grandy" <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:yGDc8.107197$[email hidden]... > > No problem here with N4 or N2002 bumpdrafting, at least in multiplayer. > > You rub the bumpers of the other players in online races? Should be, since the yellow code/online code is a joke :) -John "lane" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a504as$3le7c$[email hidden]... > > out. > > If you want to do that then get Nascar Heat, much more forgiving than N4in > this area. > >
Not really. Race the same guys year after year, get to know each others style, so it's not big deal. N2002 handles this much better than Nx before it. Besides, he's talking about bump drafting, not door slamming :) -John "lane" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a504h8$3jh4m$[email hidden]... > > > You rub the bumpers of the other players in online races? For racing with the pack bumper to bumper, door to door, it's my Nascar sim of choice.
"John Pancoast" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Should be, since the yellow code/online code is a joke :) > > -John Yea well, I don't race it online anyway. I don't even race N4 online anymore because the AI is actually better than most human players and there is no lag. NH has some weak points, but I seem to enjoy it more than N4, I like the feel and look of NH better I guess. Too bad there is no NH2 being released though to tweak it up.
Yes, in fact I still have it somewhere. But with it's lousy/non-existent yellow code, and even more important to me, it's joke of online code/play, no thanks. I have no interest in running online races without yellows, etc. Always loved how the yellows would come out when there was no wreck too, as well as conviently coming out exactly in the AI's pit window. That, and the complete bs given by the developers for why this was so. I'm far from a Papy blinded sim-racer, but N2002 is the best stock car sim currently IMO, on or offline, either one. If you like beating and banging, etc., N2002 does that just as well as Heat............but with the addition of simulating an actual race too, unlike Heat. -John "lane" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a50eev$3ke46$[email hidden]... > > "John Pancoast" <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:[email hidden]... > > Not really. I never liked N4, allthough I knew it was a great (if not the best sim) but I never enjoyed it, no matter how much I gave it a try. But N2002 is such a blast.. and not only on the 2 roadcourses, I even find racing on the ovals damn fun.. I just can't point my finger to the changes in N2002 that makes it actually fun to play.. Andre
Because N4 showed it's GPL heritage to much IMO. It didn't simulate stock car racing at all. It simulated GPL with stock car graphics, in terms of handling, etc. Whereas in N2002, the cars "feel", even without ff, like they weigh almost two tons, as actual Cup cars do; no hovercraft, no driving on ice feel, etc. In N4, they felt like the GPL cars; lightweight, twitchy, etc. That's fine for a 1967 F1 car(though I think it's overdone in GPL F1 mode too), but not trying to simulate a 2002 stock car, who's power/weight ratio is totally different. Irregardless of pc limitations, if driving a 1967 F1 car or an N4 stock car was that difficult, that knife-edge lap after lap, all the drivers would be dead, not just some. Even the pros don't drive perfect laps/races every single time, but that's what's required in N4...........perfect laps with an imperfect physics model. I like Papy/Sierra stuff as much as anyone. Have every title they've made, including Indy 500. But I bet if N4 had been released by X corporation, it would have been slammed hard in reviews. N2002's the best stock car sim ever made IMO. Heat was good, because it simulated the feel of driving a stock car well, but failed badly in simulating a race, on or offline. N4 simulated a race well, but simulated the feel of driving a stock car badly. N2002 does both very well. -John "Andre Warringa" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Hmmm, I wasn't going to buy N2002 because I figured it was just a slightly improved N4, but if what you say is true then I may just have to buy it. But at $69.00 CAD and considering I already have N4 and NH it's a tough decision for me. Plus I already have Rally Trophy on preorder.

There are beta patches that improve this. It's the feeling and look of the game I like though.

The AI is light years ahead of N3 and down. You push the slightest and they stick there nose in your quarter panel and drive right past you. This doesn't seem any different to me than N4. N3 and down once you got out in front you could hold the AI off indefinetly, it wasn't agressive enough. Graphicaly N2002 seems to run smoother on my computer than N4 and sounds better. A lot of people have complained about N4 but it is still light years ahead of N3 and down in terms of playing offline. In N3 it was almost impossible to run a full race with out all the crazy yellow flag bugs and AI crashes that ocurred in the pits. Am having a hard time convincing myself to get N2002 since if it's not so dif from N4 I can use the money to buy something else, like Trophy Rally.

If you like stockcar racing -definately- get N2002. Rally Trophy is fun, but like so many other racing games it disappeared on my shelf after a week of playing it. Not that there's much wrong with RT, but once I finished all the stages and won all the cars it simply became boring for me. Andre

Some people say it is the GPL of rally racing, so if true I must get it. Every other rally game I have is too arcade like, (Mobil1, CM 2.0, Rally Masters).I put those away pretty quickly also, but if RT is real good then I will probaly play it more often than I did the others. I like Nascar, but I'm not a big fan of it.

I haven't tried RT with the patch yet, the pre-patch RT had some stupid things like the Mini that could brake from 100-0mph within a second, but I read most of those 'bugs' have been adressed in the patch. It's not really RT's fault, the game itself it excellent, but I just got bored of rally racing after a couple of days. I found most of the stages boring (wish we could import RC2000's stages in RT.. a rally drivers dream) and after I finished all the stages I never played it again. N2002 is essentially N4.5, but it plays so much better than N4 it's definately worth the money. Oh hell, just buy both games, they're both worth their money :) Andre
"Andre Warringa" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Oh hell, just buy both games, they're both worth their money :) > > Andre I could do that, but then the guilt trip would hit me bad. I just got three new games in the last week, one more I might be able to handle, if I get two I will feel like a selfish hedonist.

I would also like to know how long a stage lasts on average. If each stage is only one or two minutes long then I'm not wasting my money on it. But I did read that there is going to be an editor released for it so people can create longer stages.
