I would think testing for beta blockers would occur.
Can't tell me having some help controlling your heart rate wouldn't help.
Heck the PGA tests for beta blockers,  it would be really surprising if
NASCAR didn't.

Anyone know for sure?

There has only been ONE driver in all of Nascar's history that abused
***.  And he's dead.  So the issue of drug testing is NOT an issue and is
not conducted by Nascar.

You're speaking about Tim Richmond, right? If I remember correctly, he
died of AIDS...not due to direct drug use. From everything I've heard,
he was one hell of a stock car driver. Giving a man like Dale Earnhardt
a run for his money on the track. :)

Also, it's been suggested that NASCAR didn't care for the image he
displayed. Not to mention his lifestyle.

Bingo.  From what I have heard in year's past...Kyle Petty didn't take
to well with how Nascar Treated Tim once he got sick.  I beleive KP's
famous pony tail was a response to that.  Tim did die of aids from what I
remember, and I'm guessing Nascar would rather he be remembered as a
druggie than something else.  His lifestyle was apparently to reason for
his illness.  Drinking, drugging and enough strange women apparently killed
him.  Anyone else have more clear info??

Here's a page with some good info about his career:

http://www.netpitpass.com/tim_richmond/tim_richmond_two_by_matt_mclau...

I do know that Tim Richmond died in a hospital room, practically alone
without any recognition from NASCAR about his career.

And you're right about his lifestyle causing him to get AIDS and die.
Apparently, he was quite the "player" with the ladies. He slept with the
wrong one, and then it was game over. I guess that's what a person gets
for having too much fun and not taking steps to stay healthy.

What really irritated me was how Dale Earnhardt never, publicly anyways
AFAIK, tried to strongarm NASCAR into acknowledging his friend after Tim
was banned or after Tim died.

The good news is, however, Days of Thunder character Cole Trickle was
roughly based on Tim Richmond.
