Tire Wear

I have finally mastered getting my setups to be competitive at 100% AI,
but when I run long races on short tracks, I need to pit frequently due to
excessive tire wear. What is the secret to keeping my pit window the same
as the AI's?  Do I need to trade off speed to save tires? And if so, how do
you stay with the AI? I think Sierra modeled the tire wear a little too
harshly biased against the human drivers.

You don't say whether you're using NASCAR 1 or NASCAR 2 - the AI in N2 is a
little more competitive than N1.

In any case, the secret to tire wear on the short tracks is to brake early
and ease into the corners, and ease back into the throttle on the exit. If
you use this technique, you can turn laps that are nearly as fast as you
get driving hard into the corners, but you will get little or no tire
squeal in the corners. Just remember, tire squeal = tire wear.

Another thing to consider on the short tracks is heat. The right side tires
tend to get much hotter than on the larger tracks. You may have to make
some shock and air pressure adjustments to reduce the tire temps. Drive 20
or 30 laps and check your temps.

also if you're using a joypad you're gonna burn the tires up faster than
robert pressley meets the concrete.  gotta have a wheel or a joystick,
no joypads.

I agree.  Driving to conserve tires is my biggest challenge.  Running
competitively is fairly easy...doing so through a full tank of gas is
something else :).
