GP2 How do u get so fast??

How does anyone get so fast in this sim?  Times of 1:21 etc are
unbelievable to me.  I have my fastes time at 1:27 with a T2 wheel
and for the life of me cannot figure out how some are going so fast?
Does using the keyboard help?

Hello, i'll give you couples of tricks :
adjust your T2 sensitivity to around:35-40% (under control)
lock to lock: between 12-15 deg (don't go higher)
pedals: sensitivity:100% both brakes and gas

now you will have to practice a lot, download some hotlap (try to find
sites that specifically have setup for wheel) then look at where they
take corners/braking entrance,if you can try to download setups ;
be wise that these setup are almost only personal in the way that they
will be good only if you drive the same way as the other person who did
it...Then you can use these setup as reference, specially the gear
ratio, wing setting, spring load. If you find setup with dampers set at
21/21 (BUMP/REBOUND) FRONT and 14/14 REAR ,well the guy who did the
setup, doesn't know he can go faster, since he didn't bother to adjust
the dampers to get better handling,Also if you find PACKERS way high
(like 35mm front and 55mm rear) --> reduce this to minimum since a level
like this will make the car drive like KARTING (barely no suspension)

Adjust your car height until plank touch barely the ground (front/rear)
don't go further than .1mm plankwear. When you modify a setup parameter
do some laps (try to do the same entry at turn, apply gas at same point)
eventually you can actually feel whats it's doing then you can go
further with modification.

For DAMPERS (level 2) a good rule of thumb to start with:

                                FRONT
BUMP DAMPERS:(between:7-13)
REBOUND DAMPERS:(between:15-21)

                                 REAR
BUMP DAMPERS:(between:4-10)
REBOUND DAMPERS:(betwwen:8-14)

please note, these # are not absolute, but a good starting point.

When you modify Anti-roll bars the effect is more pronounce at
low-medium speed, start with (1500-3000) FRONT and (50-150) REAR.
IF you raise # front, the handling will be more responsive but may
suffer from understeer. IF you raise # rear, again more responsive but
more oversteer (especially when exiting low speed corners)

Good luck! Eric

Wouldnt think so. BTW, are your times for Monza or... IMO keyboard
users dont have an advantage. Its easier to learn (steering help
and all that) but at some point youre beaten by those wheel users,
although its tougher at the beginning to drive using a wheel.
My best at Monza using the keyboard is 1:22.586. I believe the best
Ive seen so far for a wheel user is 1:20.xxx something...

In the long run I think youll go faster using your wheel. Just
practice and practice and once youve practiced, practice some
more. Soon youll beat everyone :-)

Happy driving,
Kristian

I've just been given some valuable setup info from Richard, whose's hot
lap at Monsa is mid 1:21.xxx.

Previously, my best was mid 1:25.

Adjust the front wings to 13, and the rear wing to 1 or 2.  First gear is
around 30, and then change your sixth gear to either direct drive 64:64 or
higher, until you rev limiter maxes out at the end of the straights.

Using this setup only, my first lap was 1:24.871, and within 10 laps I've
brought that down to 1:23.869, with consistent low-to-mid 1:25s in
between.

I'm using a FlightStick joystick ... and plenty of tear-offs!   :)

Nice little graphic when you make the Pole.  I can't wait to see the
animation if/when I manage to win a race.

Hope this helps you like it did me.

Go to http://members.aol.com/lfrs1/results/presea01.html to check
typical FAST times at Monza with whatever controller you happen to
use,

All these times were set with a _mandatory_ setup. So they are not necessarilly
the fastest possible for those drivers.

HI ERIC !

here is a clue to help you some of the way !
notice that this is not a SOLUTION to more
power, but it sure is a HELP!

First of all: driving the game with steering help is like playing an
arcade game, driving whitout is like driving an F1 car !
I know it's tough work the first 100 laps but practise makes perfect,
and steering help WILL slow you down !!

second : Traction help! WILL slow you down, (F7 key)
When exiting a turn like Curva di Lesmos or parabolica and applying
full throttle, the game actually takes your foot off the throttle !!
that is because you are loosing grip, and when you think you are at
full power, you might only be at 10-20% power. When playing without
traction control help YOU have the control of the Throttle!!!!!
In the beginning this is difficult to control i.e. DO NOT apply full
throttle until you have perfect grip on the track (otherwise you will
spin). When you are missing grip when powering out of corners your rear
suspension is too stiff!
soften the rear suspension to get moore grip! When driving with traction
help ON you will never notice that you are missing grip cause the
simulator ease off the throttle for you, HAVE YOU GOT THE PICTURE ??
NO GRIP NO POWER !

hopefully you will get your lap times down

happy racing !
