Recently I've noticed that my computer LCD display seems to have a band
down the middle of the screen where the images (photos, icons, text,
whatever) seems to be, maybe not fuzzy, but not as sharp as the rest of
the screen. Ever heard of this happening before? Is it a problem with
the display, or maybe with the video card?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Try doing the automatic adjustment thing on the monitor.  Sounds like you
are using an analogue connection and haven't got the clock rates or
something set correctly on the monitor.
