On line racing & wirelesss internet access?

I am in an area surrounded by high speed internet access, but neither
Ameritech or AT&T Broadband will provide that service in this area.  I just
read that WOWACCESS Inc. may be the first to offer high speed internet
access in this area.  This will be a wireless connection.

How do wireless connection work with online racing?  I know the speed will
be much higher than my noisy phone line, but will ping times be short and
quality high? Anything inherently bad in wireless access like this?

Thanks,
Russell

I've never used wireless, but see if you can get some specs on
latency. I'd expect higher latency from a wireless setup. That is also
what is a game-killer for satellite access.
With Comcast taking over AT&T's broadband unit, don't sign any long
contracts with a wireless company. Comcast is very aggressive and will
be working to plug AT&T's holes (which were mostly TCI's holes, but
that's beside the point).

The latency's not as bad as with satelite.   It should be fine for most
games.

A friend told me that the latency is pretty good - somewhere between cable
and DSL.  It's more a question of radio signal consistency that determines
the overall quality.

Working for a CDMA carrier, our roundtrip time is approximately 1000ms.

Depending on the carrier, you'll love wireless.  Works great for online
***.
