MSFFW + MTM2 + V2 = Boom!

Got your attention?

:)

There seems to be an incompatibility when you use:

The MS FF Wheel (more likely, _any_ Sidewinder device) and

A VooDoo II Card and

Monster Truck Madness II.

It is OS independent.  It happens with any flavor of Win9x.

If you have it set up to use DirectX (3dfx) or directly to 3dfx, it will
freeze in the 2D menu system when you try to go to 'Races'.

Every time.

Also, the sound takes on a stutter.  Pressing the space bar temporarily
clears the sound up, but it stops very soon afterwards, and the computer
is locked up HARD.  Only a hard reset will bring it back to life.

This will not occur if you use any DirectX 3D device other than the
VooDoo II.

In other words, if I disable the V2's ability to act as a DirectX card
in it's options, MTM2 will pick up on my Diamond G460 (i740 AGP Card)
and runs fine.  Of course, the graphics aren't nearly as good, and frame
rates are much lower.

I have tried every flavor of 3dfx driver in existance.

Note that it _seems_ if you disable the SideWinder drivers, it goes away
as well.  Which would make you thing it's a SideWinder/3dfx issue, but
no other programs have trouble.

It's confusing, and a pain.

MS's Knowledgebase has no info on this problem (not suprising).

Just so you know, for me, MSFFW + MTM2 + V2 = Fine.

I wish I knew what to suggest for you though besides the usual "make sure
you have the latest drivers."

MSFFW + MTM2 + V2 = Boom!

by mets4 » Fri, 11 Dec 1998 04:00:00

Finally someone else is reporting this problem.  I cannot get MTM2 to work
with my Canopus Pure 3DII's linked in SLI mode.  I have a ECCI controller,
so I think the problem is Voodoo 2 related and not nessacerily  Sidewinder
related.  I had no problem running the game until I hooked up my second V2
card.  The game ran superbly with one Voodoo2; smooth frame rate with all
graphic options enabled.

Of course I've checked the Microsoft site, and there is no patches available
for MTM2, nor anywhere else on the web that I can find.
