NASCAR 2 Wish List (Michigan)

One little thing that I would like to see corrected in version 2 of
NASCAR Racing would be the "pits" at Michigan. In reality, the pit
lane at Michigan is a straight "road". In every Papyrus release (ICR1,
ICR2, NASCAR1) it has a slight curve to it. You have to turn to the
left slightly when driving through the pits here, and that is not how
it really is.

Bad news.  Ed Martin has said that it would take a major overhaul of
Papyrus' track building tools to create pit roads that don't follow
the general curve of the front straight.  This inconsistency isn't
just at Michigan, it's at Talladega, Rockingham, C***te, and
probably a couple others I'm forgetting.

Papyrus has already said that there will be no change in the curved pit roads.

THAT SUCKS. Richmond is another, plus ICR2 tracks!!! They NEED TO WORK
ON THOSE TOOLS!

BTW, we are doing that major overhaul, it just won't be done in time for
NASCAR 2.  More major than even we thought :).

So are you hinting that perhaps, with the release of Indycar3 we
will see this major overhaul?  If yes, what would be a possible
release date? (Get ready to open another can of worms on this one ;-))

Will it be possible that when the overhaul is complete, the new tracks
with 'straight' pit roads could be released as some type of patch or
commercial upgrade?  Or would we have to wait for NASCAR 3?

Nice, try, but no dice!  Hopefully Papyrus has learned their lesson over
the Win95 "downloadable" upgrade for ICR2 fiasco.  However, having said
that, hopefully we will see it in Nov 1997 for a vastly improved ICR3
(with curb/kerbs and no fake walls and with tire barriers.)  Right Adam?

Ooooohhh... Another in a long line of very unhappy posts.

We have discovered that "venting" here in RAS doesn't do much in the way
of getting the software companies to go "our way".    Mostly, it just
starts flame wars.

Besides, this issue has already "burned" awhile here.  I don't think
we'll change it.  Better to get the most out of the sim that exists,
and if that's not enough, drive the real thing!  :-)

: Papyrus has already said that there will be no change in the curved pit roads.

I can live with that, what is really needed is that the AI cars not be
allowed to pit during the 'pit closed' period the way they can now.  It's
really unfair.

THAT IS SO TRUE! I hate when they crash into you, you get MORE damage,
and then they get to PIT FIRST!

I think Papyrus needs to start enforcing the sentences that are imposed
on cars who enter a closed pit.  You are supposed to go to the back of
the pack.  I've never been told to pass an AI that I know entered a
closed pit.  I have also been passed on pit row by an AI when I was
doing 55mph.  They have never been Black flagged for that.  I guess
Papyrus thinks their AI can do no wrong. :-)

I also would like to see the AI take proper approaches to the pits.  One
shouldn't be diving to the outside wall and then making a hard left to
enter the pits.  Maybe the AI should develope some type of simulated
hand signals to let us know that they are headed for the pits.  I've
lost it quite a few times following a car into the corner only to crash
because they decided to do one their patented Pit-Entrance-Kamikazee
moves.
