Anyone else try the Virtual Vehicle Simulator at MIS?

I was wondering if there was anyone else out there that tried the
Virtual Vehicle simulator at the U.S. 500? It was the setup sponsored
by WorldConnect where you could run a few laps at MIS with ICR2. For
those who weren't there or haven't seen it, it is a full setup with
racing seat, wheel with shifter buttons, pedals and monitor stand.
It's the closest thing I've found to simulating driving a real
Indycar. I'm sure it's VERY expensive though. It seemed to be a pretty
high quality piece of equipment.

You're right, it'll probably be expensive. But like so many other things in
life, there are alternatives!

I was going through the paper this morning. The classified ads have a section
called "Transportation Specials" where everything is $750 or less. There was an
'86 TBird listed for $200. I got to thinking, why not just plop a monitor
with one of those magnifying screens on the hood and play from the driver's
seat in the garage? Convert the steering wheels and pedals to PC controllers,
hook up the sound card output to the stereo system (surround sound!) and you're
racin' in style! Have the youngun's bring you cold drinks for pit stops! Who's
with me!
