End It All utility for people who don't know about it

I frequent RAS often, even though I am not a huge poster. Many of the the tips
here are very helpful. I'm sure most of you already know about this, but there
is a utility out that has been around for a few years, that shuts down all the
ancillary programs running in the background taking up memory from your races.
Check it out if you don't already know about it, it's easier than ctrl-alt-del
ing everything.

Hope this helps someone

I agree that it's a great little utility.  I've been using End It All for about 6
months now.  Very handy.  Thanks for the tip.

Enditall is a great little gem.  I think of all the new sims,  F1CS2k
benefits
the most from using it...stops a-lot of the thrashing that goes on at
certain
spots each lap.   I run enditall, then a program called softfsb to bump my
piii500 up to 515hz before each racing session.

Hmm maybe this will prevent those annoying as all hell cutouts that
I often get (sometimes I end up seeing static for 1-2 seconds and when
I come out of it my speed has been porked and I am probably in the wall...).

When I use "End It All" it works fine, but in order to shut down the computer
afterwards I have to just shut off the computer to get it to turn off.  Then on
the next boot it has to do a scan of the hard drive.  I have Windows 98SE.  Any
ideas?
Thanks,
Steve

Unfortunately, this is a design problem with Windows 98"I ain't shuttin'
down for no one" SE (Stinky Edition).

Microsoft has a couple of patches out that _help_ (maybe) with some Win98SE
shut-down problems.  Unfortunatly, they only fix about 2 out of 500 reasons
for the problem.

It is one of the main reasons I refuse to run Win98SE, and to this day use
98, the original edition.

98SE also has this bad habit of crashing out internally at startup if you do
anything before the hour-glass goes away.  It's like it takes a 15 second
pause after the last System-Tray icon is loaded and says "Go ahead, click on
something.  I dare you!".

I also think Driver Stability is more of a problem under SE.

IMHO, Win98 Original Edition, with all the critical patches, is the most
stable *** platform there is.

But, this is all much, much more than you wanted or asked for :)

Sorry, I'm not sure where the hell this rant came from.  I guess I'm still
buzzing from D.G. Fishers wizdom of the day...

-Larry

Avoiding a long, boring Windows thread, I just wanted to add that my
usual lock-up problems have reduced greatly since I upgraded to SE.
Actually I often read that for the gamer Win98SE is the most 'stable'
platform so far. I also tried ME but that was a disaster for me.

Scary thing is, you'll get used to this, if you want to or not...

spoke:

This is one of the reasons I stick with plain old '98 too. And the
fact that SE screws my joystick up and I have to go hack a file to
make it work properly again. I have an image back up of 98 with all
critical updates and basic drivers so that if I have to format and
reinstall I just need to restore the image using Norton Ghost.

ditto...win98 se and once I cleared all my netscape stuff out....my lockups
went to zero.  (I suspect foul play by MS but rather than fight, I gave up
and let the Evil Empire on my computer)  I run my vidcard slightly
overclocked.  My cpu slightly overclocked via software and almost NEVER have
ctd's, blue screens o Death and/or hard lockups.
(having said that...I'm preparing for a complete system meltdown.)

Exact same problem here, using Windows 95.  (Yes, I'm one of the few still using
95).

Fortunately, that is the only problem I have using End It All.  Despite that
problem, I continue to use it, as it makes an IMMENSE difference in performance for
GPL in particular.  (I normally have lots of ***running in the background, when
I'm not simming.)
