OT: ZA alert during a world crisis...coincidence?

For only about the 2nd time,Zone Alarm has caught somebody trying to get
into my computer via the cable connection.   I find it more than
coincidental that this attempt happens during what could be a very serious
time world wide.
I strongly suggest those with cable/DSL connections that are always on to
get some sort of firewall.  They can be a pain, they consume resources, but
they might keep your system free from somebody trying to force your computer
to send thousands of pings at whatever target computer.

Only the second time?  I get poles nearly every few minutes when I have it
on HIGH.

I got Norton firewall software which seems to work very well. However,
I think most alerts are getting stopped in the ADSL router.

I don't want to sound paranoid BUT:  I have been using a firewall for a year
or more and have never gotten an alert.  Yesterday and today I got over 60
alerts and guess what?  They all came from emirates.net.ae.  Arab Emirate
Republic.  Coincedence?  I think not.

I get about 30 per day, 65 plus on weekend days.
You should have a firewall anyway, but I don't think terrorists are
trying to delete your GPL replays. ;-)

When I was using it, I would get like 30 to 50 hits an hour. Hardware
firewall is the only way to go.

You should worry more about not seeing any alarms for a year than 60 now....
Is that firewall working properly?

I get port scanned at least 3 times a day, "activity" must be low in your
area.
