I've been drivng a Ferrari since I graduated from the Cooper and
then the Honda. I tried the Eagle and the Lotus, but I'm still not good
enough to drive competitive laps with them. But with the ferrari,I can
hold my own.

Last night after racing at VROC,I ran a off line race against a
full field at the Glen. I was surprised that the Brabhams qualified 2nd
and 3rd behind Clarks Lotus. So after the race,I tested a Brabham out.
Boy was I surprised!! For a car with only 350 hp,which is 50+ hp less
than the big 3, and weighing  slightly less than the Ferrari, the car is
fast at just about every track, and handles extremely well everywhere.

This doesn't make much sense to me. I would think that it would be
slower than a Cooper, but it certain isn't the case. With a really good
driver at the wheel, this make could win just about anywhere.

Does anyone else feel this way? Or am I competely off base with
this?

Dear Joel
You shouldn't be too surprised: the Repco Brabham won the World Driver's
Championship two years running, in 66 with Jack Brabham and in 67 with Denny
Hulme (runner-up one J. Brabham). It was fast and reliable despite being
based on a Formula 2 car and having a somewhat underpowered V8. Cooper were
in their last season in 67, with an unimpressive Maserati unit, and didn't
do much. Nice to drive in GPL though.

it is great fun to drive but it lacks the top end to compete at monza and
spa or keep up with a lotus unless you have a tight draft.

Sir Jack Brabham would probably agree with you. :)

You're not off base here :)
Repco is a very good car on twisty circuits like Monaco, Watkins, Mexico,
Nuerburgring(haven't tried it there yet). Heck....it is good everywhere but
Monza (high 1:28's) and SPA (about 3:19).

Joel... YES! The light weight and simplicity of the chassis really payed
off in 1967! Check out my site at the bottom of this message!
