I'm starting to sound like a skipping record, I'm sure....
Don't run NASCAR under Windoze 95.   Be good to yourself.
When starting your computer, press F8 and select command prompt only.

--------- caution - vent/soapbox mode on again -----------------
Nothing personal Brian - this is a general post.
Why anyone wants to run a DOS game under a GUI that continuously steals
clock cycles is beyond me.   Even if no other program is running, Windoze 95
is running things you cannot shut off.

If you find a DOS game that runs smoother under W95 (or Win3.1 for that matter)
I will be quite surprised.

If you saw a diagram of how Windoze 95 "virtualizes" the hardware, you wouldn't
ever think of running a game under it.   The newest thing is the "direct-X" drivers
that let you bypass all the "gunk" that the GUI has between the program and the
hardware....   BIG DEAL.
DOS has that already.   The reason direct-x is being used is because there is an
obvious problem with speed in a GUI.

Even if you have good "direct" drivers running in your GUI (for disk, video, audio,
etc...)   you still have other programs running that monitor the GUI.

I suppose someone will write a program and optimize it for Direct-X, and then write
lousy video and HD drivers in DOS to make the W95 version look better.

If you compare apples to apples, the DOS version will run better.  It's a no-brainer.
Running the GUI is like having a bunch of TSR programs running in DOS - and many
programs now invite (beg) you to create a "boot disk" to get rid of these so their
program runs better....

Running 5 programs in the background will make the 6th one run slower.
It's nothing more than simple logic.  <insert 7up commercial music here>
"Yeah, it's a DUH thing..."

I've been "criticized" for this view in the past (and here in RAS also), but now that
programs are starting to come out with Direct-X drivers, people are starting to see
that it's true.   If you have the DOS version to compare to , you'll run it instead.

...and PLEASE!  I'm not flaming anyone.  I just hope no one else gets sucked into this
"Windoze is faster" stuff.   It just doesn't wash.

Long live DOS!    (I love this country!)
