Bodine had some burns and broken bones, enough to lay him up for 10 weeks -
but was racing the last few weeks, running really well at Richmond this past
week after failing to qualify for the California race. Nine fans were
injured, none severely - minor cuts mainly from debris. The race was
red-flagged for several hours as they had to fix the catch fencing, which
was pretty well destroyed. Somewhat miraculous that with the force of
impact and the fireball that ensued that everyone came out as well as they
did.

>> I saw a crash today on Eurosport From Geoff Bodine from somewhere mid
>> September in a Craftsman truck at Daytona. Geez what an impact... One of
>the
>> most horrific accidents I ever saw in Nascar.
>> It was only a flashback so they didn't pay much attention to it.
>> What where his injuries and where there injured spectators?
It was during Speedweeks at Daytona in February. Very first time the
Craftsman trucks raced there. Geoff returned to his Cup ride just
this past Saturday night in Richmond, ***ia, but had to be relieved
part way through the race by his younger brother. Aquitted himself
quite well after such a wreck and relatively long absence by
qualifying 4th for the race, though.
There were some minor spectator injuries. One good laceration and, I
think, a broken arm. Geoff had some fractured vertebrae, a
concussion, some minor burns (not to minimize, that hurts like hell,
but only a small area) and a world of various aches and pains that
would result from emulating a human pinball at 180+ MPH.
Check out www.nascar.com and see what stories they may have in their
news archives. They covered it quite thoroughly, including followup
interviews with him. There should also be archived news and,
possibly, a video clip of the wreck at www.espn.com.
I don't know if it was much more horrific than Richard Petty's 12+
barrel rolls down the front straight years back, because the
television coverage is so much more thorough now than then, but it
sure seemed worse.

>> I've seen one video of MW's wreck at Bristol. That was incredible
