Haven't a clue :-) But it also appears greyed out in Xnews, 'cause I've
set it up that way. (Not that that's much help...)
Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that Xnews (unlike OE, for
example) realises that the sig separator is hyphen, hyphen *then a
space*. In other words, the bit on the line just before the sig is
differentiated from the double hyphen just before "Carl Sagan".
