I just tried a 6.30 gear like waltrip said and it was a joke...not very
realistic..well not in the sim any ways.

Try this. Seems to work well for me.

Drivetrain/Aero  Gear:  Gear Ratio:  Final Drive Ratio
                            1st      1.67:1             10.56:1
                            2nd     1.40:1               8.87:1
                            3rd      1.16:1               7.35:1
                            4th       0.88:1              5.60:1
Differential  6.33

He also told Jimmie Johnson NOT to left foot brake at Marty...saves the
brakes for the end of the race...

I haven't tried his suggested gearing but did you run it for a 100% race to
see how it holds up?  Hard to compare a 10 lap run with a full race, in
longer races the key is having a car that lasts, not that runs the fast lap
possible.

After you mentioned it I tried it also. No dice. You hit the rev limiter
before mid straight. That was with a 1.0 4th gear. NR caps us around
8900-9000 RPM.

For me I have 3rd setup at 1.043 and 4th at 1.0. Diff is 5.545. When the
tires are fresh I can run in 3rd gear which gives a 5.787 final. Call it
a passing gear. Or more accurately... get your nose along side the other
guy just enough so he cannot drive over the top of you into the next
corner and so you pin him on the outside.... and eventually pass.

I ran the 6.33 rear at Marty and really liked it.  Its quicker off.......and
makes you brake early....a good plan at Martinsville, IMHO.  I ran a 9
something 4th...with a close 3rd...for a "kick in" passing gear.  I think
its sweet....I'm keeping it.  Thanks Tom!
