Almost, Markus!

What Newman/Haas racing has been doing since Nazareth is using a computer
actuated/controlled set of LED's (Light Emitting Diodes) that display a
steady logo in the center of the wheel...regardless of wheel speed!  The
LED's are located on the spokes of the rims, and the logos can be changed
dynamically.

Check out http://www.racesimcentral.net/
press release (scroll down).

"Revolutionary Logo Placement...After a successful short-oval debut in
practice and qualifying for the Lehigh Valley Grand Prix, the eye-catching
WheelFX technology developed by Adflash will make its next appearance June
2-4 at The Milwaukee Mile for the Miller Lite 225. WheelFX, which uses LED
lights and special process control software to create images on the wheels
of racing cars, was launched on the Newman/Haas Racing cars of Christian
Fittipaldi and Cristiano da Matta. Fittipaldi's car featured logos of Kmart
and Toyota while da Matta's car featured Texaco and Toyota logos. "

Surely there's something wrong if the technical effort of a series is
being spent looking at new advertising methods ?

I've heard of massive hoo-har over the financial effect on teams of proposed
new regs reducing rear wing sizes.

The technology was not developed for advertising on Champcar wheels, just
applied to them.

Is CART is doing the research for that?
Why is N/H the only team with those then?

Oh and please remind me the last technical effort a series like NASCAR has
made?
Roof flaps or Restrictor plates?
There's something more wrong with that series.  There biggest star is killed
because of the car design, yet they seem to still be organizing a true
research effort.  Heck the track owners have done more to make those cars
safe than NASCAR.

At least CART stepped up immediatly and said to the drivers that they must
wear the HANS on ovals.  NASCAR coulda done that a LONG time ago, but they
let many drivers die, and have still only gone as far as making a
recommendation.

CART's gotta work on getting the managements' head outta their you know
whats...techinically they have made enuff efforts in safety.  As well as the
planning of a new enging package (which blows BTW)

That's right... it's a existing "technology" that's hardly new. This page is

Yes, I bet EVERY engineer in cart is finding new ways to advertise.  They
don't care about speed, they all just sit at home thinking, where can I put
another ad? </sarcasm>

Oh, come on now.  The motivation of advertising in racing is hardly a
CART/NASCAR initiative.  Why do you think Uncle Bernie makes sure that all
FIA approved circuits have a certain minimum number of 2nd and 1st gear
corners?  Much easier to read the sidepods on TV that way.   :)

It's sad, but the days of Racing for Nationality and pride are long, long
gone...it's all about the $$ - everywhere.  This method (the LED's) just
happens to be pretty neat...and the company behind it (WheelFX) is looking
to expand. We'll see!

You can even buy a frisbee (sp?) sporting this "technology". ;)

i (dangit!! my left shift key is dead..)  I suspect we'll start seeing
Tuners that slam honda civics and Acura's use this technology to advertise
their wares.  IT won't be too long before the Zakspeeds, and Neuspeeds and
AMG's of Euroland put their logos on lowered, supercharged Mercedes...
