Although I can't lay my hands on the evidence right now, I believe that the
streamliner was essentially the open wheeled car with a different body on
it. This was common in that era.

On the intro video of SOS there is a streamlined car with enclosed wheels
which I think is the Mercedes 125. Was this car the same car as the open
wheeler except with a different body ?

It may also be the streamlined Auto Union as used at Avus.

Under the skin the W125 streamliner was essentially the same as the
open-wheeled version, yes.
