Dukes of Hazzard Finds New Home at Sinister Games
The General Lee might have lost the battle, but it is going to win the war
to reach stores. The Adrenaline Vault has learned that development on
SouthPeak Interactive's mission-based driving adventure, Dukes of Hazzard,
has been turned over to Sinister Games, creators of Ubi Soft's Shadow
Company. The title was stalled when the original developers, Engineering
Animation, shut down its *** division this summer.
The team will be using licensed technology and tools from Attention to
Detail, creators of Psygnosis' Rollcage for the PC and PlayStation, a
company representative told the Adrenaline Vault. The PlayStation version is
scheduled to ship in the fourth quarter of 1999 and the PC version will be
released in the first quarter of 2000. Due to the switch to game-ready
technology, these dates are close to the publisher's original release
schedule, with only the PC version experiencing a slight delay.
GT Interactive was also left in the dust recently when Engineering Animation
closed its *** division. GT's promising period-based racing title Trans
Am Racing 68-72 has been on hiatus for months with no signs of life as the
publisher reportedly searches for another developer. Much of the technology
development on that game was redirected into Dukes of Hazzard.
