I posted a message sort of like this one in a flight sim
group, but I like racing games too so I guess I can post
it here.  Umm.  I'm sorta new here, so if there is alreay
a FAQ that has my answer just point me to it.  Anyway....

If anyone in this newsgroup uses Verbal Commander with
a racing sim (I like Nascar 2) I'd like to hear about it.
It's voice recognition in an ISA card - meant for pc ***.
Someone told me it worked well with racing sims (like
Nascar 2, etc) and I was just wondering if anyone had
heard of it.

Oh, they have a web page at http://www.racesimcentral.net/

It has more info about the hardware, but I wanted to hear about
some real-world experiences...

I use the Verbal Commander myself and as long as you are clear and
distinct in your commands it works great. Occasionally it will get
commands confused. K2 Interactive has also comeout with a program that
allows you to load the command files without having to launch the game
from their program.

REPLY:

IVGA's web page probably has the most comprehensive review of VC in existence.
Overall I like it.

> l8r,

Works great about 90% of the time. Only complaint is "mis-recognized" commands.
Example 1: I say "Tire Temps" =F4 keystroke it hears "Status" =F9 Keystroke.
Example 2: I exhale real hard it hears "Escape" I have since removed the
"Escape" command from my Multiplayer Command File. Other stuff like example 1
just takes a little word/annunciation tweking & its a GREAT asset to the game
play. The command I have that really freaks out on-lookers is in N2, for my lap
time toggle (Keystroke Alt+O) I say "Radio Check" while still in the pits & my
Crew Cheif replies "10-4 !"!! That one really blows 'em away ! ;-].

I have it, and I love it.  I race on two leagues, one is 50% and the
other is 40%.  Both on hawaii.  This thing really pays off on the
short tracks when you have no time to look or fumble for the
keyboard keys.  For the amount of money I spend already racing
on hawaii, VC was a great investment for me.
There have been a few times when, as I am diving into the pits I
have made a last minute change to only change 2 instead of 4 tires,
or not to fix damage.  I think it is a great product that is
easy to use....

One trick I use is to put the same command in 3 times with three
voice prints..  That helps the recognition software

Thanks for all the responses.  I think I am going to buy one.  My
friend got one a couple of days ago and now he is starting to beat
me in some of the multiplayer games I used to win at.  Can't let
that happen!!! }:-)

<Hehe - if you are reading this Cedar, you'd better start running
now, 'cause after I catch up with you, you're goin' back down to
the "ameteur ranks"! :->
