I don't have ICR II but in ICR I the optimal tire temperatures were:

HARD compound = 260
MEDIUM compound = 250
SOFT compound = 240
RAIN compound = 230 (i think)

I don't think ICR II's tire temps should be that different then ICR's.

Ideal Tire Temperature in Indycar 2?

I was reading through the user manual for Indycar Racing 2 and
on page 69 it mentions that you should, "Choose as soft a compound as
possible, while keeping the tire temps in the 'safe' range."  What would
this 'safe' range be, or better yet, what is the ideal tire temperature
that you should shoot for when setting up your car?  I noticed that the
Nascar manual mentions that ideal tire temperatures are just above 200
or so.  Is it safe to assume that indycar tires should be in the same
range as nascar tires?
My apologies if this easy question has been answered in a FAQ
somewhere.  If so, could someone please tell me where I could find such
a FAQ.  I searched all over the net but I couldn't find anything
specifically regarding tire temperatures.

        Thankyou.

This is not a dumb question. It shows again that the Icr 2 manual is
less detailed than the icr1 manual was, and thats a shame.

In the first manual an ideal temp. for soft tires would be 240.
Medium tires 250, and hard 260. All with a threshold of 300.

However my first and few experiences with icr 2 shows that it`s harder
to optain high tire temps now, than it was under icr1. I guess it`s
down to the loss of downforce.

Please don't speculate.  This is far from the case.  In particular, it can
be very difficult to get front tires up to even 200 degrees on most tracks.

I personally find that tires are, for the most part, rather more durable
in ICR2 than in ICR1.  (And I wonder about this...)  For example, (Rick
G will cringe) I spent an hour last night at Talladega and I never burned
up a tire, even though I ran 238+ mph laps with soft tires all around.  If
I tried a stunt like that in ICR1 I *might* get through three or four laps
before I cooked a RF, but even after 16 gallons (11 laps I believe) my RF
temps were still under 210 degrees.

Have you ever managed to get your tire temperatures up this
high?  I've been playing the Toronto track and I struggle to get my
tires above 200!  I've been playing around with the setup and trying
everything to get them hotter (stiffen the shocks, lower tire pressure
etc) but upon doing so, I get absolutely blown away by the other drivers
(opposition strength at 100%) on any straightaways.  Maybe that's why
the leaders run laps around 58 seconds and I run laps around 1:07!
Anybody have a good Toronto setup that I could try?  I'd like to see if
my setup is the problem or if I'm just a bad driver! :-(

I don't remember what I did, but in ICR1 I got a tire to 400 just before blowing it
out! I was doing it on purpose to see where it would give! I haven't been doing the
tire stuff in ICR2 yet, still trying to get used to the game.

On the road courses I usually work to get the rear tires as equal as
possible in temps.  I've found that at Toronto, the LR ranges around
197-207 and the RR about 10 degress less.  I too am having a little
trouble getting good lap times here.  It seems that I can usually hold
my own with the AI guys except on the approach to Turn 1 and the 10 & 11
combo.  They just smoke through those last 2 and I just can't get the
speed yet.  Of course I've only spent about 3 straight hours there so
far, but have gotten up to 1:01:5, but this ain't good enough to get me
out of the 15-17 range (and I am running against 98%).  It looks like I
am gonna have to work on my setup a little to get through 10 & 11
faster.  The key to straight away speed in low drag and getting on the
power as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Hehehehe....1100 degrees baby!!  Did it in practice with damage off.
I assume the tires just don't blow up in practice, cause it shoulda at
such high temperatures.  <g>
