GPL Strangeness

GPL Strangeness

Last night I was hosting a race at Silverstone.  At about lap seven, GPL
crashed on me, but nobody appeared to disconnect from the server.  Not
wanting to disrupt the race for the other people, I let it just sit there
at the General Protection Fault dialog (and black screen).

I figured I'd do something on another computer on my network and about 15
minutes later, I was staring in disgust at the GPF dialog box (and black
screen) and all of a sudden, the GPL screen came back and I was watching
the race from the pits!  I could select camera views, other drivers,
and look at all the stats/standings, so the sim was apparently back to
normal - on it's own!  The race standings showed me as having a
"puncture".

Anyone other host drivers see this happen before?  It was just too
bizarre.

GPL Strangeness

John,

I've had that before too...as you say very weird.

I have it where sometimes the sound goes and I can't go back to the pits or
anything. Car drives fine but if I want to go to the pits I have to wait for
a minute or so then I can get back there (in practice this is)....

GPL Strangeness

I was in that race you were hosting, but now that you describe the
details it sounds very close to what happened to me a week ago, I
was hosting the IGPLC Silverstone F2 Division race, we had just started
practice/qualifying and when I jumped into my car for 1st run, the screen went
black but I could still hear the other cars going on about their business,
I exited out of GPL and forced the whole league race to restart but thought
it weird, when we restarted again, 2 laps into the qualifying GPL froze
on me again and we were forced to go to a backup host for the league race.

I have since then underclocked my voodoo2 down to 85mhz and installed a
fan which blows on it thinking it might have been the voodoo2 overheating,
but now that I hear your story it sounds very similar since I had the black
screen and it was at Silverstone too, then again it could be just a
coincidence. GPL has been stable since, but I will have to see if it happens
again when I host, maybe there is some common thing that we can narrow
down and pass on to the Papy folks.

Please pass on any details if you figure out the cause, I will do the same.

Seeyas on the track.
