Try using digital-ABS (antiblocking system): brake hard until you reach
third or second gear, this may change with your particular gear ratio,
and then, before you lock the wheels, push and release very fast the
brake key in a repetitive sequence until you reach the desired final
speed.

Good idea, even using pedals, a bit of brake pumping helps to reduce
wheel lock when trying to outbrake another car.  Just let up when the
lock starts and ease back on.

The braking in GP2 is fantastic.  With a set of pedals, the handling of the
car under brakes feels truly realistic.  Not that the rest of the game
isn't
cool too.
