I think that this would be a good idea, considering the massive volume of
GPL-posts here, it would make it easier for anyone who doesn't like GPL and
people like me who look here mostly for GPL.

I agree with this... I look here mainly for GPL myself.

And 3 years from now...

You probably won't.

Making newsgroups in the Big 8 about a specific title is something
that doesn't happen.  Go make yourself an alt. group or a web forum.

you'd need to show over 100 specific posts a day, and that the voilume would
be continous. I can't see it really. Take it to news.groups in a properly
formatted RFD, but i think you'd be shot down very quickly.

alt.config is your best shot, but i really can't see people making use of it.

Yeah... alt.games is a good place to start.

Gosh, is it that time of year already?

Rather than discuss it maybe just head to Dejanews and look through
the many times in the past this has been done to death.

Cheers!

No one forces you to read GPL posts.

It would be much easier for the people who *don't* want to
see GPL related posts to put GPL in their Newsreader Subject Killfile
and then their newsreader would ignore all GPL posts, problem solved,
this way you wouldn't be forcing all the r.a.s. readers to go to
multiple newsgroups just because a few people don't want to see particular
subjects.

We've been through this Newsgroup splitting idea each time a popular
sim has came out and just think how many empty newsgroups there would
be now if each time r.a.s. had split we needed a new newsgroup.
rec.autos.simulators.gpl
rec.autos.simulators.nascar
rec.autos.simulators.gp2
rec.autos.simulators.icr2
rec.autos.simulators.icr
rec.autos.simulators.gp

and so on....

Get ready so see this happen again once Rally Championship comes out,
then Nascar3 then GP3 etc...

Seeyas on the track.

What is the "Big 8"? Heard it a million times but my knowledge of usenet
doesn't have enough pieces to fit the puzzle together.

yeah like when we needed a specific newsgroup for Nascar 2... etc etc.

The need for a gpl specific group isn't one that will last all the long. In
a couple of years it's probably wou;dn't even be used, as people who would
want their GPL questions answered will want to go to the more trafficked
r.a.s. root.

But I still have my vote up for the Indy: The Simulation specific group. :)

That would be the 8 top level groups that are propagated without a
qualm.

comp, humanities, misc, news, rec, sci, soc, and talk

That's not bad.

But is it worth it?

I know you read this newsgroup just for GPL.... it would be more less
hassle to get a newsreader that allows for watch keywording on "GPL".

Agent does that pretty well, and supports killfiles. :-)
