GP2 help!

GP2 help!

by Dan Glebe » Fri, 23 Jan 1998 04:00:00

I recently installed GP2 on my machine, and I REALLY, REALLY like it!

I can get it to run consistently at about 16 fps with everything but sky
and mirror textures turned on.

The question I have is: When running a race, about once or twice per
lap, the screen will freeze for about 3-5 seconds and then go on with
the race. During the freeze of motion, the sound continues.

My machine is a P5-133 with 80meg of ram, and a Matrox Millennium I with
4meg of memory. I am running through Win95, because if I restart in DOS
MODE, GP2 will not run. ( Cannot find the CD-ROM drive, and I have not
been able to obtain the NOCDROM patch of GP2.exe)

Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.

It's probably something to do with win95's cacheing method as opposed
to dos's smartdrv. Get a dos cdrom driver. Find out the manufacturer
of your cdrom and model and then go to the web page of the
manufacturer and they should have one for dload. GP2 belongs in Dos
where it will run the best.

Whats happening is because your using Win95 your not running the game the
way it was designed. Go to one of the sites below and get the NOCDROM
utility and run it full DOS.

Also the reason your machine can't find the CD ROM is because you need to
install the DOS drivers for it. I had the same problem.

This is a Win 95 problem. Get the dos version running at all costs.

I had the same problem, but I did have the DOS drivers for my cdrom
installed. Adding
SET GP2=I (where I is my cdrom drive) to my autoexec helped.

The reason it freezes for 3 secs is probably because it is writing
some info to a temp directory on the hard drive.  You can switch this
option off in one on the menus.
with regards to running gp2 in DOS,  you just haven't installed a
driver for your cd drive.

Cheers.....Ken
