GP2 is still fun but I have a couple of questions !!!!!!!!!

by Tim A. Deatherag » Mon, 31 May 1999 04:00:00

After I upgraded to the PIII450 system one of the first Sims (Other than
GPL) I wanted to try out again was GP2 but I couldn't get the left paddle on
my TM Sprint to respond in the calibration screen.....It just didn't WORK..
Any suggestions on a fix?????????????????????

However, I re-installed the old TM GP-1 and it works great in GP2 and I
actually can get <100% CPU Occupancy with all cars on the track
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is 25.6 FPS the max? I reduced all graphic functions and
still the FPS on the graphics mode would not go any higher ! ! ! !  Is that
max????

I have to admit the car physics for a 1990's F1 car seem better than F1RS
but the graphics is still circa 1996 and like ICR2 ! but it is still FUN
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any suggestions on the TM Sprint setup?

The paddles on the TM Sprint are on split axis.

It looks like the docs for the Sprint on the CD-ROM are wrong.  In DOS
the paddles are:

Right = Joystick A Vertical (Y1)
Left = Joystick B Horizontal (X2)

The pedals are:
Accelerator = Joystick 2 Vertical (Y2)
Brake = Joystick 2 Vertical (Y2)

So for GP2:
Steering = Joystick A Horizontal
Accelerator = Joystick B Vertical (for pedal) or Joystick A Vertical
              (paddle)
Brake = Joystick B Vertical (for pedal) or Joystick B Horizontal
        (paddle)
Clutch = (if using pedals only) Joystick B Horizontal (left paddle) or
         Joystick A Vertical (right paddle)
Gears =  Your choice of Joystick A or B (A = top row, B = bottom row)

As a side note:  I've finally discovered a use for the pedals with the
Sprint unit.  In DOS (or in GPL as "generic" input), you can have the
pedals plugged in and use one of the pedals for an analog clutch (should
work with GP2 as well).  In DOS with the pedals connected the following
are the axes for the Sprint unit:

Left paddle = Joystick 2 Horizontal (X2)
Right paddle = Joystick 1 Vertical (Y1)
Brake pedal = Joystick 2 Vertical (Y2)
Gas pedal = Joystick 2 Vertical (Y2)
Steering = Joystick 1 Horizontal (X1)
Buttons = 4 (Joystick 1 & 2)

% However, I re-installed the old TM GP-1 and it works great in GP2 and I
% actually can get <100% CPU Occupancy with all cars on the track

Yep that's the maximum frame rate.

But has anybody managed to make GP2 work properly with split-axis
paddles? What do I do when the game asks me to center Y1, then move it
to both sides? Obviously there is no "center", since the whole axis is
used by a single paddle.

Use the "controller driven" option to setup and configure your wheel.
