have been running my 300a at 374 for a while.
want to try 450 but can only do so by changing voltage to
2.2.
Anyone running that high.
Won't boot up at anything less.

Any thoughts on overheating? I do have extra case fan.

Thanks

tony

BTW it gives me an extra 5 fps at start of monaco, full
field, all graphics from the back 24fps now

I've been running my 300A at 450 at 2.2V for about six months now, no
problems.  I installed one extra fan in the case, all it does is blow
air across the Banshee AGP card which sits very close to the CPU.  Used
very simple angle brackets to mount it.  That fan dropped temps by about
5C.  System temp with all the covers on is about 38C.  CPU heatsink is
just warm to the touch, not hot at all.  Give it a shot, you won't
believe the difference in performance.  LOL.

I'm running at 450a but have to boot at  least 2.3v. 2.4v is more stable.
Installed 2 exhaust fans - one by cutting a hole in the side of the case. I
have a massive Alpha dual fan heat sink on the 300a. It has been running 3
weeks like this and no crashes.

BTW Temp in win98 with Rain is 25C - after a few hours of GPL it gets up to
35C. I dare not try any higher as I think 2.4v may be pushing it. Just
installed a V3-3000 and the difference between 2 V2 SLI is 10 FPS (at the
start of a race) with more graphics on at 1024 by 768.

Go for it but watch how the heat is being taken out of your case.

You should be fine at 2.2 volts. Anything above 2.3 and I would start to
worry a little, though some folks report running fine above 2.3
I'm running a 300A at 450 , at 2.0 volts, and it is stable as it can be. My
system temp stays between 28-29C.  Make sure you have adequate cooling ,
ideally a case fan blowing in from the front bottom, and your power supply
exhaust fan blowing out from the rear top. Also, you should make sure you
have the heatsink and a fan on the chip itself - comes with the retail 300A.
You might also try running it at 450 for a couple of weeks, then bump the
voltage down a little and see if it stays stable.

I don't think it is that unusual.  You didn't mention what motherboard
you are using.  It it is an Abit, try the follwing BIOS settings:  Speed
error hold DISABLED, CAS to 3, if you can change the cache latency, try
that too.  A BIOS tweak guide can be found at www.tweak3d.net.  Some
Abit boards (BH6 mostly) respond well to putting single SDRAM sticks in
the 3rd slot.  If you have slot 1 and you are using the retail heat
sink, it won't cut it at 2.2 volts - I would go for a GlobalWin FAB 28,
which has twin fans, and is less than 20 bucks at www.2cooltek.com or
you can use the mother of all slot 1 sinks - known as an Alpha P125 by
ordering at www.overclockers.com.
If you have only a PS fan, you will need more fans.  At the very least,
be sure the PS fan is sucking out and your new fan is blowing in.  There
are lots of web sites where cooling is discussed - I personally have six
fans moving air in and out of my case
