F1GP - Much of an improvement?

I have F1GP2 on my machine, and it's good... but not that good.  No
network play only modems and direct connection is a bit of a let down.
SVGA is really too slow, so whats the point.  There's plenty of extra
car setup stuff but the I think the gameplay is pretty much the same
as F1GP1.

Anyone else have any comments?

Yep, the game clearly uses (too?) much of the original F1GP engine.
Grammond said in an interview some time ago that he has not
seen/played Papyrus sims (and does not even want to). That kind of
attitude is respectable in a way, but IMO he could have borrowed some
ICR features...
There are some minor annoyances, like not being able to change
graphics options during the play, the menu keys not wrapping from
bottom to up/up to bottom, and then some major, like the awful
20 s.-only replay.

BTW, the AI is very good, but the CC drivers seem  not to have 'R'
gear in their box. In several occasions I have been sideways on the
track (I wonder why :) with a CC trying to drive through my side on
full gas, and it's sometimes quite difficult to get rid of the
stubborn just-went-mad AI driver.

Hey Ian

I don't think that the gameplay is the same as F1GP1. Did You turn off
the steering- and the over-steering-help in the controll-options? Try
this (it is a great driving feeling without this help and very hard to
controll the car).

I agree, I think the physics for the car and motion are much superior to GP1. This sim is extremely
challenging once you turn of the driving aids. The AI of the computer controlled cars is much improved. At
this point I'm only competitive at the Rookie level!! Practice practice practice   :{> and loving it!
