You should lift when you shift.  It will eventually become second nature but
you have to come off the gas to make sure you don't redline it or overrev it
when you are shifting.

What happens in a real car if you leave your foot to the floor between
shifts?

Please don't try it on a vehicle that you need to have around very long :)

Marc.

It depends on the car I think.  I developed bad Speed Shifting habits while
learning on the Honda.  It can take quite a bit of abuse.  The Lotus on the
other hand can't.  I have been known to go through Lotus Engines very
quickly, too.  I am getting better but it stems from poor driving habits and
learning on tougher equipment.  Just practice lifting before you shift.
Your rev indicator should never go beyond what you push the engine to on the
straights.

You most definitly should lift a bit between shifts.  I dont use a clutch
pedal, and I do shift for myself.  I have learned that there is a bit of a
delay from when I move my shift lever to when the car actually shifts, and
time my throttle lift to correspond with that.  You don't have to lift alot,
just enough to keep the engine from slamming to redline.  You'll get the
hang of it soon, and see you on VROC.

Down shifting is another critical point at which the engine can be over
revved. For me the down shifting was more of a problem than the lift-2-shift
one. Be sure you get the car slowed down enough before you start down
shifting or you will over rev.

Well, in a real race car, such as an F1 or a BTCC car, it works just fine, cause
of the semi-automatic :o).

You *must* MUST lift off the throttle when changing gear (if you want
to race for *more* than a lap or so you do anyway?)

The cars in GPL model *real* cars, if you don't lift in a real car,
pretty soon you will blow up the engine, simple.

It takes a bit of getting used to (compared to other sims) but you
soon get the hang of it. There is a very small delay in lifting and
the revs reducing, so try to time your lift *as* you change gear
rather than *before* you change gear.
