In Northern ***ia, we have Cox RoadRunner Cable. It has become notorious
for packet losses and horrendous latency issues.
At times, it is almost impossible to do ANY online *** at all.
The packet losses get so bad, effective transfer rates, as measured by
Internet Bandwidth Test, drop to, get this, less than 100k/sec.
This is all supposed to be fixed by the end of the month, but it's been like
this for like 8 months, and we've been paying full price for lackluster
service.

Pings are super! :)
* Rob kisses his ADSL modem
I envy those that actually get what they pay for :)

I suppose I could just ask them :)

In the UK, I think most low-pinging gamers are on cable, adsl or ja.net (UK
university connection). Cable is most common, ja.net is fastest. I'm basing
this on Quake3 gamers, which I played a *lot* of when I had my ja.net
connection. I'm just on a modem now :0(
Hehe :0)

I am on Home Highway with BT Internet and I regularly get 50-80 pings on UK
servers - both HL and GPL. Actually both my brother and I can play with
50-80 pings at the same time on the shared 64K connection.

| Thanks for the replies guys. As well as Vroc, I'm also thinking of games
| like half-life. I see people on HL with pings of 50-70, whereas I'm stuck
| in the 160-180's at very best. Are these people with low pings using
cable
| modem/adsl or are they just closer to the servers?
|
| I suppose I could just ask them :)

Other servers can be 200+, but presumably that is because they are further
away (in terms of hops) or slower.
