I'm sure this kind of post is getting annoying to most of you GPL
whizzes but I finally made it under 10:00 at the Ring with a 9:56.72.
I'm also quite proud because although I usually use Allison's Ferrari
set-ups I made my own for Nurburgring. Of course, I'm no Carroll Smith
(great books on setting up a racecar btw) but it certainly is gratifying
to reach a little personal goal. Unfortunately, my GPL rank still is
very poor in the high 600's but I'm working on it. Now let me see, who
is 673.

the ring. Congrats and hope to see a under 9minute post from you on RAS soon

Me too!

I spent an hour at the ring last night. My previous PB was a 10.01.
After switching from the Lotus to the Ferrari and using Alison Hine's
set up but with softer springs and roll bars for more grip, I got down
to 9.16.97. :) 4 quick 360 spins only.

You'll get better, it's just a *** of a track to remember!

It also makes a MASSIVE difference to your GPLrank. I've now dropped
from +120 to +73 in one night and I'm only 2.58s off the infamous
Eldred. I'm comin' ta getcha!

I've had GPL since the day it came out and despite the fact that i can do
1:29 at Monza and 1:06 at the Glen,  i've never tried to learn the ring
until last night.  I did seven laps, and was all set for a sub 10 minutes
until I messed up going through the bridge after the long flat bit
(autoniusbuche) and ended up with 10:03.  The FF effects at the ring are
just awesome going through all the compressions.
It's now my favourite track!  :)

Crap! Here I have been working on getting an under 10:00.00 and
someone on my 'Buddies List' does it before me! Just what I need more
preasure! Too bad I will be kayaking all weekend . . . I am going to
come back to find Peter with a lower Handicap! I have done three laps
where I could have been under 10, just to blow them in the last
turn!!! Do you know how painful that is? I bet most of us here do!

Whoaa!!!  Just improved my PB by 29 seconds in one lap!  Did a 9:34.46 in
the Coventry at the ring.  Don't think i'll see that kind of improvement
ever again.  No serious crashes either.
What a circuit.  I'll be ready for GPLRank soon...  :)

No problem - congrats!  Well, I'm not a GPL whiz, but congrats anyway!<g>

Out of curiosity.. What class are you talking?  The WR for F3 is
9:28-ish (9:40.5 for me :-)

Don't worry Steve your still 10 positions to the better of me. I've got
almost 18 seconds to go before I reach you. But I'm going to keep
trying.

Congratulations to you.
Softer everything made a big difference for me. As I get to know the
track better and gain more car control, I'll hopefully be able to
stiffen things up to get a faster time. I was just amazed that I'd
finally got under 10:00.

Thanks. But I've got to tell you Eldred, from behind my steering wheel
you are a whiz. You are an inspiration to us really slow guys. I better
get back to the track now and see if i can find a few more seconds.

<snip>

Well played! As someone about as far removed from a whiz as you can
get, let me congratulate you. The Ferrari's a good car for the Ring -
it's got me my second fastest time.

And, though you may not believe it now, you *can* (with a load of
practice and swearing) do a sub-9. For heaven's sake, if I can do an
8:51, then who can't? :-)
