Having just bought ICR2, i immediately jumped in and setup the
keyboard controls. Well, at least, i tried. My prefered layout is as
follows:
S - accelerate
A - brake
Q - change up
tab - change down
left/right - somewhere else on the other side of the keyboard or
possibly u/i
Some of you may recognise this cluster of 4 keys :) Anyway, i find it
comfortable, my middle finger operates either change up or brake.
Now, with ICR, i could use these keys. Sometimes i did notice that in
certain situations they keys didnt respond. Typically when i was
turnning, accelerating and changing up, like at the kink just after
the chicane at portland, where it would sometimes not change
up..*bang*. I assume this is todo with a restriction of the pc
hardware, or perhaps coz my machine wasnt fast enough. It always
worried me that if i was braking, changing down, and turning in that
i'd have similar problems, at least thats what i blame for my
sometimes inability to stop in time for the corner. Does anybody else
have problems like this? (i mean with their keyboard controls, not
with inability to stop in time..)
Now i have a faster machine and icr2, and as some of you may have
guessed, i cant use the above keyboard controls. I cant find any
block of 4 keys in the right pattern, since papyrus now have thought
it necessary to overload the keyboard with other toggles. why oh why
cant i change these. The only expanse of unused keys are the keypad
etc..but when i'm sat there with the keyboard on my lap, i dont want
to have to have both hands on the right side of the keyboard, plus its
harder to quickly use the F-keys etc to get info whilst racing
(perhaps this is supposed to be realistic??)
one solution would be to swap my controls around so the left hand just
steers and the right does the rest, but i've tried this and its a
complete mind bender.
another solution would be if software writers allowed more control
over the keybindings
and another would be to get a steering wheel.
Lets hope GP2 doesnt have the same problem.
