Let me get this off my chest

OK, I constantly read about NTT on RAS and at the APEX and I thought that it
looked pretty neat and all, with all the organization, but now I have
decided I will have no more respect for them.  the fellows over at NTT took
my name off of RAS and put me on a mailing list and now I get every result
and standing they feel like sending out.  The first one I got, I just
thought nothing of it but now I continue to get them.  I thought the guys
over at NTT would have more respect for people and not go around gathering
up email addresses so they can spam people to try to get them to join up the
league by showing them all the different results and all.  I left the online
leagues alone a while ago since my connection to the net isn't good.  I just
wanted to get this out of me because it is really bothering the ***out of
me about how inconsiderate they are to just collect email addresses and
start spamming away.  Maybe others feel that this is a good idea but I
personally think that one should be asked before put on a mailing list.

Oh well, it is a little extreme but as you can see, I hate spammers and
people that just send out ***to everyone they see.

Have you mailed J. Rambo and asked him to stop sending you these
results and standings? I think it could help...

BTW. Have you taken part in any of the NTT races?

Jesse, I can understand getting upset about unwanted mail... but Jack is
a nice guy with a nice series... and he's doing it all himself. I am
sure if you want off of the list, he'll take you off. Just reply and
tell him to take you off.

I know you're a nice guy, but try that before roasting someone (or a
group) on a newsgroup.

My first email to him was too harsh but I cooled off and sent him another
one.  I was told to write a polite letter asking to be removed from the
list.  All that I feel is that if someone would like me to write a polite
letter asking me to be removed from a list, they should write me a polite
letter asking me if I want to be on the list.  For a lot of groups, it just
isn't this way.  I am sorry Jack for being so extreme with my death threats.
Your league looks very nice and I would join it if I had a better connection
because it appears to be very nicely organized.  Sorry the relationship had
to start out in the ditches.

Read my above posting.  I haven't participated in any NTT events due to
connection problems and absurd lag times.  Cable modems are coming to my
area soon and when I get one, you will see me on, but until then, I just
can't race in online races.  Again, Jack, sorry for being so harsh, I
suppose I should have waited a week to cool down but you can't tell yourself
to do that when you start to get angry.

Jack Ramb

Let me get this off my chest

by Jack Ramb » Sat, 03 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Let's get one thing absolutely straight.

RaceLive!/NTT has not in the past nor will they in the future engage in
spamming. Our mailing list consists of:

1) the many drivers who have participated in the NTT series,

2) people who have specifically subscribed to our mailing list,

3) people that I personally have raced with in the past, and

4) a small handful of people that I have corresponded with in the past that
I know to be racing sim fans.

Mr. Black was in the fourth group. It seemed to me that a ranking of some of
the top online racers in the world would be of interest to him, since he
seems to have an almost overwhelming presence here on RAS, and so his name
was included as a courtesy.

I am enthusiastically trying to build something in the RaceLive! network and
the NTT World Championship series that the entire online road-racing
community can enjoy. Hosting six*** organized online races per week,
drawing top competitors from around the world, compiling results, and
developing an entire community of top-quality hosts and a
substantially-expanded set of racing series for sim enthusiasts around the
globe is no cakewalk. When you have to deal with people such as Mr. Black
who choose to talk first and think second, it all becomes rather tiring!

A simple, polite "drop me from list" e-mail would have done the trick, Mr.
Black. As an amazing alternative, you chose to suggest that "the fellows
over at NTT" are no longer worthy of one's respect. Incredible.

Thanks to those of you who have come to my defense. By and large, the sim
racing community is full of intelligent, thoughtful, and fun-loving people
who have no interest in malicious attacks. It's a shame that we have to deal
with any of this, especially when it involves something as trivial as a
piece or two of on-topic e-mail!

Jack Rambo

Incidentally, if you, unlike Mr. Black, would *like* to receive information
about RaceLive!, the NTT World Championship, and upcoming events and series,

support, encourage your participation in our events, and would like to share
our enthusiasm for the fascinating world of online racing!

one word; DECAF, Jesse, DECAF..........

Cheers,
