Well, on the 18th when N1999 was first out (at least the first *I'D* heard
about it!) I called the EB only a couple of miles away to confirm that they
had it in stock.  I was told yes, and I mentioned that I'd be in that
evening to pick up a copy.
After getting off work at 5:00 I walked to the mall (I have VERY bad knees,
almost crippled right now), waited patiently at the counter while the 4
workers helped 2 customers pay for their stuff and picked out a magazine
while I waited.  Finally when it was my turn I asked the lady if they had
N99.  She asked me if I had it on hold.  I said "no! Nobody said I NEEDED to
have it on hold!"  Her helper went into the back and brought me the ONE copy
they had and asked me if I was "Mark".  Unfortunately I answered "no" and
was told they couldn't release it without contacting him (he wasn't picking
it up for TWO more days!).  Unprofessionally I started yelling (well, not
REALLY yelling, but you know what I mean) at the lady about the fact that I
wasn't told there was a NEED to place it on hold.  She basically said
"sorry."  Yeah, thanks.
My ol' lady saw my dejected look when she picked me up later and we
spent the next couple of hours looking for a store in Portland that had it.
Luckily Software, Etc. had 3 copies hidden on their shelves.
When I got home, it wouldn't install on my Cyrix machine!  LUCKILY it
installed on the Better Half's P5-166!  Now I just gotta kick her off her
machine when I wanna race!
'Course I'm using this as an excuse to get a NEW machine!

Let me get this straight. You had a dejected look on your face when you couldn't
find a computer game and your wife not only felt sorry for you but she let you
put it on her computer? My wife would have laughed in my face and told me to
grow up and find a real hobby. I bet all you have to do to get laid is say your
mouse is broken and you don't feel well.

As I tried to email to Mr. Moore: with our incredibly limited budget, we
try to "spoil" each other whenever we can.  Fifty bucks is a cheap way to
keep me happy for MONTHS! She knows how important N2 (and N1) was and how I
was looking forward to N99.  Since she was driving that day, she kinda
hijacked me and took me to a store that happened to have it.  Now with
Winter setting in, I don't have any expensive hobbies, the WC is over, and
Fast Friday at Portland Speedway doesn't start for a few months yet...  I
had been keeping N1 around just because I had a Truck carset for it. Now I
don't need it!

they could have asked if you would like a copy held for you  or
you could have asked for one to be held

So funny that computer-stores seem to be the same everywhere in the
world...here's from Germany...
