A WARNING TO YOU ALL ABOUT FALSE POSTS.

by Je » Fri, 26 Jan 1996 04:00:00

Sorry to have to do this but this guy has really got my goat.

It concerns one person using the Atlas network and using the Domain
name "Roadrunner".

Over the past couple of weeks, a colleuge of mind at The Pits, Dave
Bowers, has been the subject of Roadrunners false postings.

I have recovered around 1000 articles starting from late last year to
try and find out why Roadrunner has been picking on Dave in
particular. Also, if I can find an earlier post of his where he is not
hiding under Dave's name, I hope to find his full e-mail address.

The subject of these false posts has been F1GP2 a subject all of
us are keen to hear more on.

Over the past months Dave has been periodically calling Microprose,
reading magazine articles and asking those who have seen the demo
to get as much information as possible on the game.

He doesn't confess to being a GP2 expert, nor does he want to be
branded as one.

However, Roadrunner has continually made post under Dave's name using
offensive language, making false statements and generally driving
Dave's name into the ground.

I myself have been the victim of false postings in this group and at
one point had to appear in court to prove I hadn't posted the
articles.

For this reason, I am incensed by idots who see fit to bring other
peoples name in to question for the sake of appearing clever.

If Roadrunner has a grudge against Dave then why not e-mail him
direct and have it out with him instead of wasting bandwith by posting
lengthy articles that bring huge threads?

Needless to say, Atlas have asked me to send details of the offending
articles and are intending to take action on them.

If they dont, I will.

Please, I urge you, if you can check the headers on an article with
your news reader please do. With Free Agent, you will need to save the
article and read it in Notepad.

False posts are easily identified as, although they contain Dave's
name and e-mail address, the message I'd says

line63.atlas.co.uk.

I would not be suprised if I now become the target of Roadrunners
false posting and I look forward to more of his feeble efforts.

And if your reading Roadrunner, you know where to find me if you want
to talk it over.

I can't agree more. Well said.

I have to correct you on this one. I do use Free Agent and just select
Article->Show all header fields.

Even easier, Jed. Just hit CTRL-H whilst viewing the article to switch the
headers back on.

Great site by the way....

.......

Actually, Agent 1.0 has a "Show all header-fields" option in the
"Article" pulldown menu. No need to use notepad.

Increases the chance of a "hit", I suspect :-)

Hi Jed, have you considered using PGP for authentication?

Daniel.
