A couple of Questions.?

by Jon Dento » Sat, 19 Oct 2002 19:33:07

1. Does anyone know where, how or who I can can get DTR Sprint Cars and/or
DTR2 in the UK?

2. Does anyone know if there is a location I can get hold of the Goodwood
Hilclimb course for GPL as we saw at Goodwood this year?

Any help much appreciated.

Rgards,

Jon.

That track is not available for download.
Some agreement with Goodwood was that it was not to be distributed.

So the GPL community supported Lord March, but not the other way around?

Well, his Lordship can stuff any future motorsport events he organizes
up his fat arse!

That's rather unfair. If you followed the discussions on RSC, there
was considerable doubt for a long time as to whether the Goodwood
climb would be able to be used at all. Obviously I wasn't privy to
the discussions behind the scenes, but the outcome was that Goodwood
would allow the course to be used, *on condition* that it was
exclusively at the Festival of Speed.

Of course it would be nice to have the thing publicly released, but
the only way that could ever happen would be for Goodwood themselves
to have a change of heart - which I can't see them doing. More to the
point, I think, is whether the course will be around at *future*
Festivals of Speed - no-one's given a straight answer on that,
possibly because no-one knows.

Who needs an agreement? Can't someone just make it from scratch and post it
somewhere? As long as it's not being sold and just given away for free is
that not legal?

Nope.  Technically any real tracks being added to GPL that represent
modern circuits could be pulled if the owners of the rights to the
likenesses of those tracks said so.

Generally most track owners seem to be of the Panoz mindset, i.e. who
cares, it's good for my company if people make these things.  Either
that or they're unaware that people are reproducing their tracks for
sim usage.

Why have any conditions at all? I know why, it's greed, pure and simple!
His Lordship must think there's a license cheque in the offing for a
future hill climb sim, yeah right! Lord March's Hill Climb Legends, by
Papyrus? These rich ***ers won't give anything away, will they?!

'Nice' yes, but I won't lose any sleep over it if it isn't.

Do you mean the real or GPL one?
