I just noticed there's a film on UK sky digital
channel TCM
at 5.00 on Friday 18th may, called The green
helmet.

It says very little about it only,
A racing driver who loses his nerve after several
bad
crashes makes a final attempt to prove himself.

I've never heard of it before, anyone know
anything about it,
i.e. what class of cars, what period, whose in it,
any good etc.

I'ts a sportscar type racing film, featuring footage from Le Mans and the
Targa Floria or Mille Miglia in the late 50's...

Not the best racing movie I ever saw, but there's some good fottage from LM
in it.

The Green Helmet, released in 1961, starred Bill Travers, Ed Begley,
and Jack Brabham and was filmed at Le mans, Silverstone, Sebring and
Mille Miglia.

No great shakes as a racing film, but mght be worth a look as a
documentary of the period.  (It's been nearly 30 years since I've seen
it, so please forgive me if my recollection is a little faded.)

Hello,

I'm an expat Brit living in Canada : AND :

Yes, I've seen this movie. It has Jack Brabham in it in a bit part (he was
World Champion at the time),plus some nice footage of Le Mans, Silverstone
(a test session) and the Mille Miglia/Targa Florio.

The plot is a bit awful - a British racing driver out of a job signs up to
help a US tire manufacturer sell his product (by winning races on his
tyres), seduces his daugther, kills his best friend (co-pilot Sidney James)
then wins the big race.

It's not a bad film.It is worth a view in my opinion. Nowhere near as good
as Le Mans or Grand Prix, but much better than "The Racers" (Kirk Douglas)
or Days of Chunder (sorry Thunder)

 Enjoy !!
