Dear all,
I am looking for some help in selecting a (non-force feedback) steering
wheel suitable for playing racing sims, especially "Grand Prix Legends". I
have been looking at the Saitek R4 and the Thrustmaster Formula1, which now
has paddles as well as a gear lever. I also believe it is digital, what ever
that means as the input to a sound card is analogue?
Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated.
Note!
I am based in the UK so I suppose imports from the US are out.

Andrew,

I bought the Thrustmaster Nascar Pro in August 98.  I believe this wheel
is the same as the Formula 1, right?  Anyway, my son and I have had a lot of
fun with this wheel.  It feels great in your hand, the stick shifter is
great, and the pedals feel fine.  However, the wheel is not without its
problems.  The pedal spring broke on the brake after only a month or two of
gentle use.  The throttle spring broke shortly thereafter.  Thrustmaster
replaced both without a problem and sent extra springs in case it happens
again.  In January or so, the buttons on the steering wheel stopped working.
I took the dashboard apart and saw that the wire was severed in two;
apparently it got cut from some sharp edges and the turning of the wheel.  I
had to pull out the solder gun to fix that one.

In all, a good performing wheel at a fairly cheap price, but don't
expect it to last without some problems.  It needs some design changes for
sure.  When the bungee cord that provides the resistance in the wheel goes
bad, I'll probably look into buying a new wheel rather than fix this one
anymore.

Does anyone know of a site or magazine that has recently done a review on
*** steering wheels for the PC. My T1 has had the biscuit and I am
basically looking for an over the counter wheel which I mostly use it for
Nascar Racing.
Thanks in advance - Wayne
